Overall, I was very pleased with my 98 Toyota Tacoma for many reasons. It's a very useful reliable compact pick-up truck with a usable sized bed. Interior room is a bit limited due to it being a single cab and compact. The little four-cylinder engine produces enough power to get the job done and is efficient. I rebuild engines as a profession and this 6.5 ft. bed makes it easy for me to be able to haul a couple of engines and equipment without having to pull out my gas-guzzling, full-sized pick up.
Pros
One of my favorite features of my truck is the fact that it has a four-cylinder engine that's fuel efficient and reliable. It has enough torque to pull small boats, jet skis, and a host of other things. The brakes are big and provide good stopping when I have a load in the bed.
Cons
My truck being a 2WD base model, I am limited to what I can tow. So it's not practical to pull my car trailer with a car on it. The little four cylinder struggles to live. Also, the radio is of poor quality. And the decision to put a clutch fan on the engine opposed to an electric fan effects the A/C system. No tach to monitor engine speed, and the clock is mounted in a useless location making it hard to easily view it. And the wiper system only has two settings.

The truck has had a few big problems but other then that it can be enjoyable and when kept maintain can be quite reliable.
Story
It waited till the last mile of a two hour trip to break down.
Pros
Lasts a long time. Replacement parts are affordable. The interior is comfortable. The paint coating does not easily rust. It is not as bad on gas as most trucks. The trucks bed is a decent size. The heater and air conditioning work great. It rarely overheats.
Cons
Not the best on gas. It is a very small truck. The Back seats are so small they are almost useless. Burns oil more than it should. The same few problems reoccur often. The same parts repeatedly go bad. The gas cap needs a key that can get annoying. The lights are pretty dim. Bed trim does not fit the beds form very well and makes it look cheap. The beds trim is not well secured. The Truck does not have power locks or windows. The handles break easily. The hood latch is hard to locate. The plastic used in the trucks design is cheap and cracks easy. It needs constant maintenance. Oil leaks a... (more)
