This is a very nice vehicle to own and drive. There are plenty of safety features that are included and are optional. The vehicle is very easy to drive and comes in manual and automatic transmission. The newer vehicles come with Toyota safety sense. It will alert you when you are not in your lane. It will alert you if you are too close to a car in front of you. And it will automatically stop if you are not paying attention, and it senses a collision with a human. It features a back-up camera and parking sensors; it will beep if you are too close to an object. The vehicle is also very easy to maintain.
Story
This vehicle was able to go off road to the lake without being 4x4 without any problems or getting stuck.
Pros
The vehicle comes with Toyota safety sense. Higher trim levels come with wireless charging for your phone. Dual climate control. Some trims come with crawl control for any one who loves to off road. There is a long-bed or short-bed option. Toyota safety sense will alert you if you are not in your lane. It will also alert you if you are too close to the vehicle in front of you. It has adaptive cruise control, it will monitor the distance and keep pace with the vehicle in front of you so that you do not get too close. This is good for long drives. It will monitor the distance for you so you ... (more)
Cons
There are really no cons. The higher trim levels come with push to start but that could be a pro for some people. The wireless charging may be useless if your phone doesn't offer wireless charge. There are not very many usb ports. That however can be added after market. If you get the option for the sound system, it takes away from storage. It is not removable, the subwoofer is built into the vehicle. Some people may not care for the sound system and would prefer the extra storage. There are no air vents for the passengers that sit in the back seat. There is not a lot of space in the back ... (more)

Toyota trucks have been having frame rust corrosion for well over a decade. It is an issue they are well aware of. Toyota set up a customer support program to specifically for this. The warranty coverage for frame rust corrosion perforation is nothing but an attempt to cover up an inferior product. My truck still looks brand new but has been declared unsafe to drive due a frame that has rusted out. This is after I was contacted by Toyota about the issue. Toyota said the frame was good and put a “protective “ coating on it. 5 years later it’s junk. Toyota was very polite in telling me it’s my problem. I won’t be buying Toyota products anymore. You can verify my same issue by looking up ‘Toyota truck frame rust’. Toyota may have fixed the issue by now but I’m sure something else will pop... (more)
Story
I was in Mammoth Mountain for week long camp and very light off road driving. Unfortunately my truck broke down and was not able to get back for two days. There was no cell phone signal. So I had to wait for few days for another camper to arrive. Interestingly they were driving a Honda fit and gave me a ride back to town.
Pros
It has the capacity to haul what I want for my garden, lets me get wood for my hobby and by being a four door enough space to take others with me.
Cons
3 returns under warranty and failure by Toyota to solve resulted in my trading the vehicle off with 7,700 miles.

2018 Toyota Tacoma ReportCard Review

Autolist ReportCard Score: 83/100

Pros:

  • Great off-road capabilities
  • Most standard active safety features in its class
  • Six available trim levels
  • Entune touchscreen infotainment system included on all models

Cons:

  • Awkward driving position with no height adjustment
  • Six-speed automatic transmission doesn't always shift smoothly
  • Ride quality could be better
  • Not the most fuel efficient vehicle

Review Summary:

The 2018 Toyota Tacoma is a mid-size pickup truck with a wide range of active safety features, available on all models.

The well-tuned suspension has off-road shocks for great performance on rugged terrains, while the rigid chassis and body offer a solid feel on the road with minimal cabin noise.

An Entune touchscreen infotainment system comes standard with all models, providing navigation, weather details, sports information and multimedia support.

The six-speed automatic transmission sometimes shifts roughly, but a more comfortable six-speed manual transmission is available, too.
