I've had my vehicle for several years, and so far I'm liking it. It hasn't given me very many issues. It's reliable, doesn't get awful gas mileage, and I trust it to take me where I want to go. I like that it hasn't had major issues, that it feels solid, and that it seems worth what I paid for it. I don't like that I've had a few minor issues, and I wish it was bigger. I also wish it was more engaging to drive, I drive 80+ miles 5 times a week and it gets a little boring driving my truck that far.
Story
I've used this truck deer hunting several times, and I've always enjoyed using the bed to haul my deer. I've almost gotten it stuck in the woods several times when its rainy, but it always manages to pull itself out.
Pros
Mechanical reliability would be the thing I like most about my truck. The original battery lasted a long time, and the motor and tranny are still going strong. I also like that it feels sturdy. Toyotas are the most reliable vehicles on the road, and mine has been reliable. I also like that its a truck. The bed is useful, especially when I'm doing yard work or working in the outdoors. The gas mileage is good for a small truck, and its comfortable to drive.
Cons
The thing I dislike most about the truck is how small it is. It has an access cab, and now that my kids are bigger I really need 4 doors. I also dislike how it has low power, I don't pass very often because it takes awhile to get around someone. My drive to work is very hilly and it feels kind of gutless going up all those hills. I've also had some electrical issues, my blinkers keep blowing out and I can't figure out why. I also wish I would have gone with a 4x4, I haven't needed it yet but it would be nice to have. It doesn't turn very tightly either, for such a small truck I thought it ... (more)

I bought this because I wanted a mid-size, four-wheel drive truck. I had a full size before getting this, and it was very difficult to park, but the Tacoma is very nimble and easy to maneuver around. Mine is the off-road model that has traction control capabilities beyond well beyond what most vehicles are capable of. Mine has the access cab body style which gives it a smaller cab and longer bed, which is ideal for me because I rarely have passengers and frequently have cargo in the back.
Story
Just a few weeks after I got it, we had about a foot of snow, and it was a blast driving around on roads that the plows hadn't gotten to yet.
Pros
My favorite features are the magnetic gray metallic color and the off-road capabilities, even though I rarely go off road. The traction control will allow you to get moving even if only one wheel has traction and the rest are spinning or even up in the air. The engine has plenty of power for me, though it's certainly not too powerful. The oil filter is on the top of the engine and super easy to change. The truck is one of the most reliable long term, like many Toyotas are, but I did have a couple issues which I will detail below in the cons section.
Cons
Some of these Tacomas have a very common rear driveshaft vibration at low speeds when accelerating or decelerating like before, and after a stop, and mine has this issue. Toyota has service bulletins, but none of them seem to completely fix the issue, and Toyota even tries to tell customers that it's just a characteristic of the truck. Another issue is that the battery hold-down was fastened too tight from the factory and caused the battery to leak and fail early, which I had to replace on my own dime. The stereo system is barely adequate, but not awful. This particular model year had a p... (more)
