I purchased this van used so that I could have it converted into a handicap accessible van. I had need for automated side doors and automated wheelchair lift, a lockdown device for the wheelchair inside, a special driver's seat chair so that I could transfer from my wheelchair to the driver seat in order to drive, and pedal extenders so that I could reach the brakes and the gas. Once said and done along with some regular maintenance and new tires I had about $15,000 invested in the van used, whereas it would've cost me close to $70,000 had I gotten the van equipped with the equipment I have in it new.
Historia
I remember when I first purchased the van and started driving it. I went out with my wheelchair and let myself get into the van, locked my wheelchair in the place, transferred to the driver's seat, started up the engine, and about that time, some of my neighbors looked up and saw me backing out of my parking space into the driveway. The look of shock on my neighbor's phases when they saw me in... (more)

Overall, this van has been a real workhorse. It serves my needs quite well, and I am able to use a remote control to open the doors, let the wheelchair lift down, bring it back up, move the chair inside the van and lock it down automatically. I am then able to transfer from my wheelchair to the driver's seat and go anywhere I want to go all by myself. It has given me a great deal of freedom as compared to having to depend on a public paratransit or Metro transit system. If I want to go to the store in the middle of the night, I can go. I don't have to call a day in advance and live by some... (more)
En Contra
The price of gasoline being used by this van has definitely been a factor in whether it is driven each and every day or not. Because of the extra equipment installed, there is a heavy load on the vehicle, which enhances the amount of gas that is needed to run it. Instead of getting 18 or 19 miles per gallon, I now get only about nine or 10 miles per gallon.

The van was a fleet vehicle at a local university before I bought it, and it has some features due to being an institutional vehicle that are inconvenient. For example, the rear heat and air conditioning controls were disabled, and the back and side door locks were set to be controlled by the driver only. The van had less than 60,000 miles on the odometer when I purchased it, but it had a lot of interior rattles and some of the upholstery was damaged. The tires that it came with were adequate but not new, so they had to be replaced early on. There is a CD player which worked fine at first but now sometimes jams or won't play some CDs. The outside lock on the driver's side front door came loose and fell into the door, so I have to enter vehicle through one of the other doors to unlock t... (more)
Historia
We have been able to take trips and visit places we otherwise would not have been able to afford, because we can set up the van as a camper and avoid the cost of motels or hotels on our trips. We have visited several state and national parks and taken advantage of making the van into a camper.
A Favor
The van has plenty of room, and I am able to put in and take out the back seats as needed. This allows me to use the van as a camper on occasion with a bed in the back and cabinets for storage, and it allows me to haul equipment or other large items with the back open and accommodating large items. The van also gets reasonably good gas mileage, making it fairly economical to drive.
En Contra
There are a lot of interior rattles, and there are a few holes or worn places in the upholstery. The ABS brakes don't work very well, as they "warn" me of ice or slick roads when I'm driving on perfectly dry smooth pavement. The seat belts sometimes lock up when there has been nothing to warrant their locking, and I have to remove the belt and let it retract before it will work normally again.

I absolutely love my van. It runs nice and smooth and is made of metal. I really have a thing for larger vehicles as they make me feel safe. This car has done it - I feel totally safe and protected. I bought the car basically because of it's size. It has done right by me and only required a few repairs. I plan to ride this van until it won't go anymore. I hope it lasts me a very long time. The cost of the van was totally worth it! I paid $2000 for it and would do it again in a heartbeat. I think the van was used for transport for a company because the floor in the van is rather trashed and the side of the van is faded out in spots where there were signs on it. It would make sense that it was used for that as it is the perfect vehicle to transport items.
Historia
I had friends come by for a cook out. We ran out of chips and needed more, so all 10 of us piled into the van and went to the store! Everyone (except the driver) had been drinking so it just made it extra fun to pile into the van and pile back out like a clown car.
A Favor
The size of the vehicle is what I love the most! It is big and safe and I feel comfortable in it. I require large vehicles for personal beliefs. I have been in more than a few car wrecks where people ran into me. I got through those without much injury because all the cars I had owned had been large and made of metal. I like the size of this van and don't know that other people would have that requirement of a vehicle they were choosing but it's at the heart of my purchases with vehicles.
En Contra
The van is very old. It has over 200,000 miles on it. I wish there weren't so many miles driven on the van. There have been repairs on the van with the average cost $400. It has been moderately expensive for general repairs that it needed.
