The seats remain in high quality condition after all this time, as well as the functioning of the radio. One of the seat warmers has broken. Some of the buttons have been worn away so they are becoming more difficult to read. The car remains safe to drive, which is great because I have driven over 120,000 miles. I have owned it for three years and it drove smoothly until a month ago when I discovered I had to replace the tires and power-steering fluids. The gas mileage is average, not expensive. The car rides low and it is built very long. Also, it doesn't turn on a dime so I often do a 3 or 4 point turn in order to park. I enjoy the large trunk space because I am often traveling with tools and supplies. The car is relatively reliable, which is why it has lasted the last three years. T... (more)

Every time I drive 50 minutes to visit my old college friend, my car makes the drive so easy. The time flies by because it is just one road the entire way. Therefore, I get to enjoy the comfort of my vehicle and the awesome power of its radio and sound system.
A Favor
The car is very comfortable. The sound system works well in the car and the radio is reliable. The gas mileage is not overly expensive. The trunk space is large enough to accommodate my needs. I love the sun roof because it allows me to relax while driving. The best part about this car is that it has lasted so long. It is over 120,000 miles but it has not needed such extensive repair as to render it worthless. The back end of the car is styled in an aesthetically pleasing way. I really enjoy the seat warmers, especially in the winter because the car can get so frigid. However, the heater a... (more)
En Contra
I dislike that this car only has two doors for passengers. There is not much room in the back seat. I have had to repair the car quite a bit since I got it but it runs smoothly otherwise. The car is wide and low, which can make parking difficult. This is especially apparent because of the car's inability to make quick turns. While the seat warmers are a nice feature to have, the driver's side seat warmer has broken. The lights on this car are not extremely bright either. While they allow me to see sufficiently at night, it is difficult to navigate in stormy winters because the lights are w... (more)

The car is beautiful. It was purchased brand new in 2002. The styling is what ultimately made me buy it. I had a used 2000 previously but it had problems with electrical. The performance was fine but gas mileage wasn't the best, although it has improved with age. There have been a few issues that required service but most were during warranty period. I don't like the design of where the rust begins at the wheel wells. I also don't like the way the snow and ice fall into the trunk when opened. There seems to be some paint issues on the drivers door which I have seen on other Monte's of similar years. A common problem that I have also noticed is the wheel bearings require replacement often. The traction control system also has some issues at times where the lights will go on for no appar... (more)

I still get a lot of looks from people on the car. The car is black with gray on the bottom, which is very sharp looking. Right after I got it, I took it to a Nascar race in Michigan and everyone was gawking at it!
A Favor
I still really like the looks and style of the car after 13 years. I love the sun roof. The stereo sound is great. The AC is still working nicely.
En Contra
The biggest complaint I would have is the problem with the blinker switch working intermittently. There is currently no recall for my car but other years do have a recall for that problem, which is very frustrating. It is low to the ground, so the bottom of the car scrapes when going in and out of parking lots, etc. After the initial tires were changed the ride has never been as good as it was with those original tires. As mentioned early, the snow/ice falling in the trunk, the rust on the wheel wells and paint coming off on drivers door.

I've had this car for 12 years, and it's my favorite car I've ever had. It's got over 200,000 miles on it, and when the engine eventually does give out I plan to replace it so I can keep the car. It is very comfortable and easy to drive, with good visibility all around the car (a later design of this model has a terrible blind spot). I like sitting low and close to the road, and the car is sporty for it's size -- it's a two door and looks like a sports car, but the two doors are huge, and there is a relatively comfortable backseat (I call the car a sports sedan). It has a good sized trunk as well. I drive both short distances around town, and occasional long hauls, and it is comfy for both. When I travel with my cat I let him out of his carrier, and the cabin of the car is just large e... (more)

I bought a huge, one of a kind, poster (approximately 3 feet by 5 feet) in New York once, which is about five hours away. The poster was mounted on board, so it couldn't be rolled. It did not fit in the trunk as I have expected it would, but thanks to the car's huge doors, it did fit into the cabin of the car. I drove five hours back from New York with the poster laying across my front seat in... (more)
A Favor
Sporty, nice looking, and fun to drive, while being large enough to carry people or things when necessary.
En Contra
A number of the radio knobs have fallen off. The pin under the knobs can still be turned, and the radio adjusted, but it doesn't look great.
