Good but some poor design
The car is beautiful. It was purchased brand new in 2002. The styling is what ultimately made me buy it. I had a used 2000 previously but it had problems with electrical. The performance was fine but gas mileage wasn't the best, although it has improved with age. There have been a few issues that required service but most were during warranty period. I don't like the design of where the rust begins at the wheel wells. I also don't like the way the snow and ice fall into the trunk when opened. There seems to be some paint issues on the drivers door which I have seen on other Monte's of similar years. A common problem that I have also noticed is the wheel bearings require replacement often. The traction control system also has some issues at times where the lights will go on for no apparent reason. The CD player didn't last very long, I think it worked property for maybe the first 5 years or so.

comfortable, sporty, still family oriented, huge trunk
great car, comfortable, plenty of leg room (and I'm 6'5") my car currently has 255K+ on the motor and transmission, all original parts. real nice style, sporty look. there is a blind spot between the windshield and the driver/passenger door. the only times i had it in the shop is when I hit a curb and needed an alignment. there is kind of a noise issue when driving on the highway (tire noise). the mileage is around 22mpg hwy giver or take. its a pretty fun car to drive, its not something I can spin the tires in or drag race, but it handles pretty well and brakes good. its a sturdy car, that is safe, even when in a accident. over all its a 3.5/5 star car

Good and solid.
I think that over all this car is a really good car as long as you keep up with it. I bought this car last April and immediately took it to the shop to get worked on. There were some things wrong with it that typically go wrong with older cars but over all it wasn't bad. I do have some problems with it shifting, which, from what I read on another review site I think that's a common issue but I was able to get it fixed before it got too out of hand. The interior is great just a little boring feature wise but I think that it is a good and solid car for pretty much anyone. I do like the moonroof but I've had some recent issues with it sticking and not wanting to stay on the track which ill have to get figured out. I don't really like the length though because it is a really long car and I think that because of that I have a harder time parking it too.
