I like the car over-all. It runs great for being as old as it is, and gets great gas mileage. Also, the seats have an adjustment for lumbar support which is great for people like me - with a bad back. The dash is coming up which is a bit of an eyesore, but it doesn't get in the way when driving. One thing that I do not like is that the steering wheel doesn't move, so it's hard to get comfortable. Also, because it doesn't move I have to have my seat further back for my legs to fit under the wheel. I have trouble being able to reach the radio since the seat is so far back. I don't like how slanted the back seats are, because it makes it difficult to get the base of my daughter's car seat level, and it slides around once installed. I like the electric windows and locks. It has cruise cont... (more)
Title
We took the car on our first road trip after having our daughter - it was our first family vacation.
Pros
It runs great. I like the power windows and locks. I also like the gas mileage the car gets. The seats have an adjustment for lumbar support which is great for my back.
Cons
It's not the best looking car in the world. The wheel isn't adjustable, so it makes it difficult to get comfortable. This means I have to sit further back away from the wheel for my legs to fit comfortably, which makes it hard to reach the radio. Also, the back seats are slanted too much which makes it hard to properly install my daughter's car seat. The cruise control has no light on the dash to let you know it is on/in use.

1997 Ford Contour - Appreciate the durability and strength of the car

I have a 1997 Ford Contour I purchase about a year ago from a private owner for around $1,100 dollars. Overall, it's been a reliable vehicle and has gotten me from point A to point B. There have been a couple minor issues that we have had to fix along the way, but nothing major. The biggest issue that we have had to deal with is the engine overheating. Luckily, we were able to attach a toggle switch to the fan, which allows us to control when we need to turn it on. Besides that, it has been a relatively comfortable vehicle and is durable enough to handle two small children. Of course, I wish it had more room, but for being a 4-door sedan - I can't complain! I have definitely gotten my $1100 out of it that I paid for it.

My daughter loves to go fast and one day while I was shopping, her dad and her decided to drive the vehicle around the store as fast as it could go (while still being under control). I guess the vehicle handled the turns great and it made my daughter laugh uncontrollably. She has loved the car from that moment on....
Pros
The top positive things about the vehicle that I like are the automatic door locks and windows, which still all work. The backseat is relatively spacious and comfortable enough for my two small children. Lastly, it gets decent gas mileage, which is crucial now days.
Cons
The most negative issue that I have had to deal with is the engine overheating. I was able to find a solution to the problem, but I can see how other vehicles of this make and model would not be so fortunate. The other issue that I have had is the method that they installed to move the back seat forward and back. It's manual and is a knob that you twist with your hand on the side of the seat. Personally, I have a hard time twisting it and am unable to do it myself.

The Ford Contour Sport is not a car designed for long distances. The transmission completely blew within 60,000 miles of driving it. I bought this car new, and it almost made me completely lose my trust in Ford. Not only did I have engine problems almost immediately, but this compact car was almost too compact. There was no leg room in the backseat for passengers, unless the driver and shotgun rider were pressed up to the windshield. The trunk was also quite small-- too small for even a couple of sets of golf clubs. Also, the paint job of the car dulled quite quickly and soon went from a shiny gold to almost a dull tan. I treated this car well, had all the routine checkups and oil changes, and it still was completely below my expectations. Cars should last more than 60,000 miles no mat... (more)

I remember driving my friends around in it when I first got it... that's about the extent of the fun I had.
Pros
It was cheap. Power steering was nice.
Cons
Small size. Unreliable. The overall ride of the car was not smooth. The paint job faded quickly. Almost immediate engine trouble. No legroom and small trunk.
