The used vehicle I own is a 1999 Ford Contour. At the time of purchase, I was pleased to see that there was no damage on the outside. The inside was a little dirty, but it had been owned by another with children at a low price of $500. All the needed functions to operate the vehicle worked properly. I was concerned with the mileage on the odometer being over 100,000. Living in a rural area there is a need to travel long distances. There was a spare tire included. When test driving it, there were no problems at all. Which made it easier to decide to purchase the car. A dislike was that there was no heat or air working. I did like that the trunk size was big and would fit a lot of groceries for example. I mainly wanted to have a vehicle that would get me to and from work. Also, with very... (more)
Story
The very first time getting to show my son we had a car was a wonderful memory. We took a long drive around the neighborhood with him sitting up front which he had begged for.
Pros
There were some pros to the car that I was happy with. It already had a stereo equipped with a CD player. There was no physical body damage to the car. The interior was in decent condition and just needed to be cleaned. I did like that there were cup holders in front and one in the back. This was important for when having my son sitting in the back to prevent spills. On the steering wheel, it had buttons for cruise control to turn on and off easily. I really liked that if any urgent attention needed were displayed. The gas needed lasting a very long time. Fewer fill-ups were very important... (more)
Cons
There were some cons of the vehicle as well. The first being the high mileage already on the car at the time of purchase. Already knowing that there was a need for a repair was a disappointment. Which was that the heat and air were not functioning at all. This was something very important with having one child and one on the way. The car's age being from 1999 was not something I was hoping for as we were in 2013 at the time. I was a little unhappy that the vehicle was not cleaned out prior to presenting it to me for purchase. It was more of the trash needed to be removed. The car had not b... (more)

This was nice car. The vehicle performed well. The quality was good. It had quality parts.
Pros
Antilock brakes and traction control. Fun handling and quick acceleration, with a top speed of 143 mph. The SVT's additional horses, 16-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension and exterior styling enhancements made it even more desirable.
Cons
The radio stopped working, the dashboard intermittently failed, and then, of course, the check engine light was on constantly. Not to mention I had to replace water pump, alternator and a leaky brake cylinder. Replacing the exhaust system was sort of expected since that was because of how old the car was, not really based on the number of miles of use on it. What ultimately ruined the car (with just over 100k on it) was a spark plug.

1999 Ford Contour - This car runs great.

I brought my car "Anna" on Craigslist in 2012. The car has not let me down yet. I have never had a flat, and the fixes for the car are minimal. I put oil in the car every 6 months and she takes me all over Washington State. There is a light oil leak in the gasket, but my mechanic says "So what, it took 16 years to get it there". She does drink more gas than I would prefer though. At 44 mpg, I thought she would be a little more gas efficient, but that is her only flaw. She is small enough to park anywhere, and it's easy to maneuver her steering. The air conditioner works great after 16 years. The back seat is a bit small, as well as the trunk, but the seat-belts work great, no issues. The doors squeak a little, but nothing WD-40 won't fix. No "check engine lights" on, no brake lights, t... (more)
Story
It was 1:30 in the morning and we had just moved to Auburn, WA. No street lights, and a million trees on the road. With only a phone GPS to guide us, we made it through the 200 foot tall trees on little back streets and farmland roads to Seattle, WA without knowing where we were. We were so grateful my car didn't break down. My little car Anna made it through those woods and to safety.
Pros
The car never stops running, rain or shine. The gas is cheap, the tires are compact, the body of the car is real metal, not plastic or aluminum, the air conditioner still runs great after 16 years.
Cons
Sometimes the window on the passenger side sticks, the car drinks more gas than I would like. The trunk could be a bit bigger, as well as the back seat. The doors to the back seat are oddly shaped, so it's hard to get square items like fish tanks or big boxes in the back seat.
