A modern Classic
1996 Ford Thunderbird 4.6 Lt. Sexy, fast, dependable. A true modern day classic and soon to be collectors item. A big two door luxury sports coupe that hauls and turns heads. Surprisingly fuel efficient, and easy for do-it-selfers to maintain. Fuel injected and individualized cylinder coils with top load spark plugs makes it powerful and economic at the same time. The four speed overdrive automatic transmission allows it to effortlessly cruise at 80 mph with a tach reading under one with ability to rocket up to 120 in about 5 seconds when the needs arise. The contoured interior has the feel of a classic James Bond style coupe with the dash and center console giving the feel of a cockpit. The only bad thing about this model is the front end requires constant monitoring and occasional attention be a pro to maintain maximum handling ride performance and safety. The kingpins tend to wear and if left unattended will cause catastrophic failure causing the top of the wheel to collapse outward. It is only a problem if not corrected in time. I have witnessed this happen once and it provided motivation to have mine serviced and it was fairly inexpensive and has not given me any trouble at all.

Inexpensive performance
I really like how reliable my Thunderbird has been. I purchased it with over 100k miles and have driven it 40,000 and haven't had to do anything but routine maintenance and replace the brakes. The only challenge with the vehicle is I had some problems with the lighting. Both the head lights and both tail lights needed to be replaced, and finding good condition parts was slightly challenging for a 25-year-old car.

Good for what I needed
I needed a commuter car, less than 50 miles a week. I definitely wanted four-door vehicle, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I had the opportunity to buy the used Ford for $4,000, so I took it as it was at least single owner though it had a lot of miles. I like that the car feels solid. The gas mileage isn't great, but I drive it short distances so it doesn't matter. So far, I haven't had any major issues.
