If you're looking to get into your first EV, but are still concerned about driving range, then the Ford Fusion Energi takes care of that issue. The vehicle goes up to 24 miles on pure electric and then switches off to a conventional ICE and hybrid engine setup. The vehicle is a luxury vehicle with countless options.
Story
Getting our kids in the car after having a Toyota Prius was wonderful. All of the sudden they had plenty of space and no longer fought constantly as they were no longer so snug in the rear seats!
Pros
I averaged more than a 125 miles per gallon on a regular basis between electric mode and gas. In one year of ownership, I averaged putting gas in the vehicle every 1.5 months! The windows tinting was excellent, the sound deadening made the car luxurious, and the ride is nothing but smooth. The vehicle is extremely well built and fits three kids very comfortably in the back.
Cons
The top negative is the lack of trunk space. Due to the vehicle having a conventional and hybrid engine, the battery pack is in the trunk area. With the EV battery taking up so much space, what is a very large trunk in the conventional version of the Fusion ends up being able to fit no more than an averaged sized suitcase and a small carry-on. If you're going on a trip with four people, the seat for a fifth person will be filled with luggage.

The build of this car is amazing, it is quiet and nothing rattles or shakes at all. The leather seats and light colors make everything look smooth and sleek. The sound system is exceptional, and the navigation is very easy to use. The gas mileage is also the most amazing part about this vehicle because more often than not I get above average miles per gallon.
Story
We drove from Michigan to North Carolina and only had to fill up once. We stopped over night in two hotels and charged the car overnight. It made for a smooth and quick trip that was not very costly. I had an easy drive because the navigation system was easy to use and find rest stops/food but also right there when I needed to know what my next direction was.
Pros
Keyless entry makes getting in and out with kids a breeze. The sound system is easy on the ears. The leather seating makes accidents with kids okay, and easy to clean without compromising the high quality look of the car. The gas mileage is the biggest pro because I can fill up once a month, and not ever hit empty. I charge it every night and my electric bill has not gone up at all.
Cons
The only con about this car is the small trunk space and having kids. It can be hard to travel with the kids as my double stroller does not fit in it.

The car looks somewhat compact on the outside, however, roomy on the inside. Passengers have stated the backseat has ample leg room. I have not yet had to bring it in for mechanical issues except normal wear and tear, tires, oil change, brakes. The disadvantage of this car is that the lights do not automatically go on at dusk and off when the car turns off. They are manual. Although I have gotten use to this, if another family member drives the car, it has to be reminded. The trunk is very spacious. The car is not noisy at all. I have noticed one very small blind spot, but it is not an issue. The mileage has been great. I commute about 25 - 30 minutes away Monday through Friday and fill up about once a week. Usually never more unless going on out of town trips. I drive to wo... (more)
Story
The Ford fits a car seat nice and snug in the back seat. We were without one for years, but had to put one in with the birth of our second grandson. We were responsible for caring for our 3 year old grandson when his brother was born. We felt we could safely transport him to the hospital to see his baby brother and parents in the Ford.
Pros
My favorite feature of the car is the built in sync, Sirius radio and sunroof. The car's gas mileage has put money in my pocket compared to other vehicles I have driven. Braking is fantastic and the car has front wheel drive which helps a great deal in bad weather. The car has been trouble free except for routine maintenance. I can easily get on and off the interstate without issue as it accelerates rapidly and is very smooth without jerkiness when doing so. The car is also equipped with fog lights which has helped on many evenings heading home in the country. The backseat leg room h... (more)
Cons
The top negative on the Ford Fusion would be the manual lights. The lights must be turned on and off. They do not go on automatically at dusk or on rainy days when it is dark and gloomy. The lights also must be turned off manually when the car is turned off. This was difficult to remember initially and must be constantly reminded when other family members take the Ford instead of another model we own. The other negative thing would have to be the lack of motion to adjust the steering wheel. It does not slide up when trying to get out of the car if you have heavier coats on or someone... (more)
