Ford Explorer Sport Trac Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac - Great mid-size truck!
The Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a very reliable truck, from my experience. I get better gas mileage than expected (though still not great - it's a truck, after all) and the ride is very, very smooth. The inside has a ton of space for people and cargo. Also, I just like the general shape and look of the curves of the vehicle from the outside. The suspension feels a bit off, and makes loud rattles when going over speed bumps. Otherwise, the vehicle is in tip-top shape after 83k miles driven.
Story
Even though it's not 4-wheel drive, I did take it on the beach with a few of my friends recently to just drive around. A lot of fun and it held up well!
Pros
The vehicle is very, very smooth and quiet on normal roads. There is very little noise or rattling. The inside is very cozy and spacious, allowing enough room for 5 people comfortably. The shape of the vehicle is very modern looking and "curvy," which looks very nice. The side mirrors are very large, which is a plus (because many cars have tiny ones that don't help). Overall, the vehicle has held up well, has great features, rides great, and looks nice.
Cons
The vehicle rattles a lot, and loudly, when going over bumps (or a dirt road, for example). The stereo system plays good sound, but two of the speakers blew out around 70k miles. The leather doesn't seem to be the greatest quality, either - it has been 83k miles now, but the leather has begun to crack and shed. Also, the A/C died at around 78k miles. Outside of that, the vehicle has held up well.
2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac - Lacey the Sport Trac
The thing I like the best about my Sport Trac is that I have the versatility of a truck and the seating room of a sedan. I love the bounce of a truck and the ability to haul stuff. The room makes it easy to cart my grandbabies around. The engine is quieter than I would expect on a truck of this age, but I also have an excellent mechanic. I like that the Ford is American made and affordable and safe. The only thing I dislike is as a woman, I am small and wish that the Sport Trac had the extendable foot pedals as my Mercury Sable did. I looked for two years for a jeep that fit all my preferences and budget and never found one. When I first considered the Sport Trac I was posed to dislike it, because it was not a jeep.... I was remarkably surprised at how comfortable it was to drive. The ... (more)
Story
I love that I now own the truck that everyone wants to borrow to haul stuff.
Pros
Seating space mixed with the ability to haul stuff.
I love the ability to put down all five windows and have the airflow of a convertible without the sun constantly beating down on me.
Cons
The only negative I have on this vehicle is the lack of pedal extension. And that is a minutia concern.
2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac - Proud
I like that the truck has a feel of a truck, sounds like a truck, without the big gas prices of a full size truck. It really doesn't ride like a big truck, but you can feel the power as if a full size truck. Unlike bigger trucks, this isn't a truck that makes it impossible to park, as it handles at times like a car. It easy to maneuver the truck into a parking spot. I love that the back window comes down without having to open the driver or passenger side windows. I can simply roll down the back window to get air. I love that the truck came with a secured truck bed cover, one that I can lock and unlock. Gas mileage is incredible, I can get more in this truck that I can in the car I had previous to this. I also like that the truck came with a hitch, in case I wanted to pull something.
Story
I normally have to borrow a truck when trying to move stuff, so it felt really good when I had my own truck to load a washer AND dryer in one visit.
Pros
The truck has the feel of a truck without the gas prices lately. Also, the gas mileage is normally bad with trucks, but my truck can get up to 400 miles to a full tank of gas. I also like the bed cover, b/c if I want to put something in the bed of the truck versus the back seat, then I can just throw in the bed of the truck, lock it.
Cons
Even though the truck is a smaller truck, it takes a lot of gas. Also, the bed cover is heavy, so not easy to carry by one person, I need help to pick it up and put back on the truck. I wish the bed was a bigger bed, because even though it is a truck, the bed is smaller, thus limiting how much can carry around. Also, I wish this truck would of come with one of those extender's, to make more room in the bed of the truck. One thing I wish this truck had was the 4x4 package. Another thing I wish this truck had is the light on the display where the heat/air is. That hot/cold display is not lit... (more)
