The Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a very reliable truck, from my experience. I get better gas mileage than expected (though still not great - it's a truck, after all) and the ride is very, very smooth. The inside has a ton of space for people and cargo. Also, I just like the general shape and look of the curves of the vehicle from the outside. The suspension feels a bit off, and makes loud rattles when going over speed bumps. Otherwise, the vehicle is in tip-top shape after 83k miles driven.
Story
Even though it's not 4-wheel drive, I did take it on the beach with a few of my friends recently to just drive around. A lot of fun and it held up well!
Pros
The vehicle is very, very smooth and quiet on normal roads. There is very little noise or rattling. The inside is very cozy and spacious, allowing enough room for 5 people comfortably. The shape of the vehicle is very modern looking and "curvy," which looks very nice. The side mirrors are very large, which is a plus (because many cars have tiny ones that don't help). Overall, the vehicle has held up well, has great features, rides great, and looks nice.
Cons
The vehicle rattles a lot, and loudly, when going over bumps (or a dirt road, for example). The stereo system plays good sound, but two of the speakers blew out around 70k miles. The leather doesn't seem to be the greatest quality, either - it has been 83k miles now, but the leather has begun to crack and shed. Also, the A/C died at around 78k miles. Outside of that, the vehicle has held up well.

The thing I like the best about my Sport Trac is that I have the versatility of a truck and the seating room of a sedan. I love the bounce of a truck and the ability to haul stuff. The room makes it easy to cart my grandbabies around. The engine is quieter than I would expect on a truck of this age, but I also have an excellent mechanic. I like that the Ford is American made and affordable and safe. The only thing I dislike is as a woman, I am small and wish that the Sport Trac had the extendable foot pedals as my Mercury Sable did. I looked for two years for a jeep that fit all my preferences and budget and never found one. When I first considered the Sport Trac I was posed to dislike it, because it was not a jeep.... I was remarkably surprised at how comfortable it was to drive. The ... (more)
Story
I love that I now own the truck that everyone wants to borrow to haul stuff.
Pros
Seating space mixed with the ability to haul stuff. I love the ability to put down all five windows and have the airflow of a convertible without the sun constantly beating down on me.
Cons
The only negative I have on this vehicle is the lack of pedal extension. And that is a minutia concern.

I bought this truck used. I have had it for 3 years. I've driven across 4 states and back and I think it get's the best gas mileage the longer you drive it without having to stop and go through towns with stoplights. It has a sunroof that I thought I would like but it's really useless cause it's really hot to have open and I don't believe it seals right and leaks around it so that's very annoying. I've had to replace the fuel pump in it. I'm not sure if it was because of bad gas or what. The parts for this particular vehicle are not too expensive which is very nice for a person who doesn't make a ton of money from work. The radiator cap that came on the vehicle was made of some material that melted and needed to be replace. I was initially interested in this truck because I wanted a tr... (more)
Story
I live out towards the country so my husband like to play on dirt roads making the truck spin out a little bit. I'm terrified but he always thinks it's funny. My daughter loves when he does this and she always wants him to "go faster".
Pros
Some of the things I like about the truck are that it has a nice sized backseat to fit both of my children in the back in full sized car seats. If I ever have another child I'm pretty sure that a third car seat would fit ok, although it may be a little snug. There is plenty of room under the seats to store stuff that you do not want stepped on. There are pockets on the back of the drivers and passenger and driver's seats to put things. The pockets are deep too so the things I put in them are safe from my children grabbing them. The back window has a little window put in that rolls either p... (more)
Cons
I do not like the sunroof in the truck. I believe that it doesn't seal right and you can tell whenever it rains that it seems to be getting the fabric on the ceiling of the truck a little moist. The temperature gauge in it always reads 5 degrees off whatever every other thermostat says. Both of the back doors seem to have had issues with the locking system or the latching problem either one. This vehicle does not handle well on snow or ice at all! There is absolutely no weight at all in the back and it will slide out easy if you aren't 100% on top of rough weather driving. The jack that co... (more)
