The Ford Explorer Sport Trac is a very reliable truck, from my experience. I get better gas mileage than expected (though still not great - it's a truck, after all) and the ride is very, very smooth. The inside has a ton of space for people and cargo. Also, I just like the general shape and look of the curves of the vehicle from the outside. The suspension feels a bit off, and makes loud rattles when going over speed bumps. Otherwise, the vehicle is in tip-top shape after 83k miles driven.
Story
Even though it's not 4-wheel drive, I did take it on the beach with a few of my friends recently to just drive around. A lot of fun and it held up well!
Pros
The vehicle is very, very smooth and quiet on normal roads. There is very little noise or rattling. The inside is very cozy and spacious, allowing enough room for 5 people comfortably. The shape of the vehicle is very modern looking and "curvy," which looks very nice. The side mirrors are very large, which is a plus (because many cars have tiny ones that don't help). Overall, the vehicle has held up well, has great features, rides great, and looks nice.
Cons
The vehicle rattles a lot, and loudly, when going over bumps (or a dirt road, for example). The stereo system plays good sound, but two of the speakers blew out around 70k miles. The leather doesn't seem to be the greatest quality, either - it has been 83k miles now, but the leather has begun to crack and shed. Also, the A/C died at around 78k miles. Outside of that, the vehicle has held up well.

The thing I like the best about my Sport Trac is that I have the versatility of a truck and the seating room of a sedan. I love the bounce of a truck and the ability to haul stuff. The room makes it easy to cart my grandbabies around. The engine is quieter than I would expect on a truck of this age, but I also have an excellent mechanic. I like that the Ford is American made and affordable and safe. The only thing I dislike is as a woman, I am small and wish that the Sport Trac had the extendable foot pedals as my Mercury Sable did. I looked for two years for a jeep that fit all my preferences and budget and never found one. When I first considered the Sport Trac I was posed to dislike it, because it was not a jeep.... I was remarkably surprised at how comfortable it was to drive. The ... (more)
Story
I love that I now own the truck that everyone wants to borrow to haul stuff.
Pros
Seating space mixed with the ability to haul stuff. I love the ability to put down all five windows and have the airflow of a convertible without the sun constantly beating down on me.
Cons
The only negative I have on this vehicle is the lack of pedal extension. And that is a minutia concern.

Overall, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2007 is a good alternative to a full-size truck for someone who wants the advantages of a truck bed and the ability to tow and small trailer or boat without having to sacrifice interior space. The vehicle is cheaper than most trucks in its class. If a crossover is the mix of a van and full-size car, the Sport Trac is the blend of a full-size car and small truck. The vehicle will save you money on the purchase, but if you plan on keeping it more than 100,000 miles, it will become a headache for maintenance.
Story
I fabricated a plow and cable guide to fit on the tow-hitch receiver and used it to lay underground fence on my property. My neighbor saw me do it and paid me to do his property. Since then, I've done four other houses in my area.
Pros
This vehicle has a great luxury features compared to other vehicles in the price range during that year. It came with a moon roof, adjustable seat, tow package and bed cover. It's a great vehicle for someone who needs a small truck bed to occasionally tow a small trailer and still needs the interior of a car or SUV for kids or groups of people. The vehicle handles well and has good power for its size while maintaining good fuel economy.
Cons
The vehicle itself suffers from design flaws. The plastic housing on the thermostat melts and warps when the engine coolant runs low or otherwise runs hot. The transmission failed at 130,000 miles, because the cooler in the transmission quit working and burnt the overdrive gears. The radiator truck is harder to work on, and parts more expensive because they come as "whole units" when compared to other vehicles. Unnecessary sensors cause annoying dash lights, and the door sensors fail causing lights to stay on sometimes.
