2007 Hyundai Elantra - Reliable like a Cow
This car has great gas mileage and is one of the most affordable cars on the market. It was purchased brand new in 2007, and it currently has 132,000 miles on it, and I plan to use it for another 2 years (until I finish graduate school). It has been an ideal car for college and graduate school since I have used it primarily for visiting friends and family across the state. It also held up very well in the one accident that I have had in this car: I was stationary in traffic when another car ran into my bumper. I needed a new bumper but the offender's car was totaled. It is also quite spacious and the trunk has held various musical instruments at one time (multiple cellos, violins, violas).
One thing I do not like about the car is small details that have not held up well. Some of the ... (more)

One thing I do not like about the car is small details that have not held up well. Some of the silver paint has rubbed off on the inside and my passenger visor became loose and had to be taken off.
I would say that this vehicle is reliable like a cow in that it may not be very fast, and may not be the prettiest animal in the pasture, but it will provide for you consistently and can feed your family for many years.
My dog loves riding in the car, and when he was undergoing heartworm treatment, he couldn't go on walks. So, I took him around the neighborhood at night and he got to stick his head out the window and take in the smells.

This vehicle is very comfortable and has soft, cloth seats. It is spacious, with a large trunk. My favorite feature of the vehicle is the gas mileage.

The vehicle has had some pricey maintenance after 100,000 miles. Small things like paint coming off on the inside or the front visor becoming loose affect how I feel about the car. Additionally, more modern cars are getting better designs and gas mileage, so the cost of maintaining the vehicle has to be compared to the appeal of a newer, better vehicle. It has required a significant amount of money to maintain starting at 100,000, although the majority of the repairs are to be expected (new brakes, struts, etc.).

2007 Hyundai Elantra - Would buy (and have bought) this car again
My first car I ever owned was a 2007 dark blue Hyundai Elantra. When that car went to my siblings the next car I bought was... A 2007 dark blue Hyundai Elantra. I've put hundreds of thousands of miles on it, and when it eventually goes, my next car will likely be a Hyundai Elantra.

I've packed 4 adults and all of their college stuff (clothes etc.) In for a cross country road trip. It was tight, but we all made it from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean!

1. Maintenance is a dream. It doesn't require much, and when it does, maintenance is very easy. I do most of it myself and I am by no means a mechanic, nor do I have a private garage. I have had to replace both headlights, tail lights and the center brake light (after 8 years of use), and it took under $4 and under 5 minutes to do all of these myself.
2. The amount of space inside makes me think I have a Mary Poppins purse of a car! I owned it all through college and beyond, when Ikea trips were common. It has fit the following items: an 8 person dining table (boxed), two adult sized bic... (more)

It has fit the following items: an 8 person dining table (boxed), two adult sized bicycles at the same time, a queen sized mattress (rolled from Ikea), a queen sized mattress frame. I also packed the car with 4 adults and all of their stuff from college for a cross country road trip!
3. Gas mileage is great. It's no hybrid, but for what it is, it gets good mileage. I probably average 35 mpg.
1. On both Elantra's I have owned, the passenger side flip-down sun visor/mirror has broken. I'm not sure if this is something common to this make/model.
