2000 Mazda MX-5 Miata This car was purchased with 1,500 miles on it from a private seller and was in virtually brand new condition. This is the base model that comes with a standard transmission, alloy wheels, convertible top, A/C, AM/FM CD stereo, power windows and 4 cylinder engine. It's a very compact model that allows for a driver and a single passenger.
Story
I took my Miata on a long road trip to Canada. I had just bought it and it looked great and it was a super fun experience. The drive was fantastic and the car responded better than expected... it's a wonderful memory for me.
Pros
The 2000 Mazda Mx-5 Miata has sleek styling and good looks. It handles tremendously in turns and in sharp curves and has solid power for a 4 cylinder engine. The standard transmission has a stubby shifter that works flawlessly and is a joy to run through the gears. All the interior electronics and lights work perfectly and the gauges are well laid out. The single CD/stereo is terrific and plays loudly and clearly. The trunk is a pretty good size for a very compact car. It's a great car for cruising, especially with the top down. The two latches for the convertible top are a breeze to use a... (more)
Cons
The Mazda Miata MX-5 is not for really tall or bulky people. I am an adult male of average height and the leg-room is barely enough. The headroom seems to be fine, but for a really tall person it would be uncomfortable. Really long road trips can lead to cramped legs. Some other things about the Miata that are not so great are the lack of a light ring around the ignition switch and the fact that the trunk light only comes on when the headlights are on. The trunk is as big as Mazda could probably make it, but it's very small in comparison to just about any larger vehicles. The Miata is rear... (more)

This is the second Mazda Miata I have owned. I bought it because I really liked the first one, and just wanted a newer model. This is considered a Gen2 Miata, which some people have criticized. Generally, I can agree with some of the criticisms, mainly lack of power and poor handling compared to previous and later models. However, it was definitely an improvement over my first Gen I Miata. It had power windows, a glass rear window, and a better audio system. Price was a major factor in my decision to buy this car. When I bought it, I was a college student commuting 50 miles round trip every school day. The Miata was economical to drive for that purpose. I got around 26 mpg, and maybe a little better on the freeway. Maintenance for the Miata was fairly easy. The brakes need... (more)
Story
Once I picked up two members of a LA heavy metal band in the Miata to drive them to a TV interview. All three of us crowded into the front seat (with the top down, of course) and drove down Sunset Blvd. with music blaring. We did get quite a few stares that day.
Pros
It's economical to drive. It's a convertible, so good for all seasons here in Southern California. It's small, easy to park, and fun to drive.
Cons
The gear shift can feel rough sometimes. It doesn't shift as smoothly as other cars I've driven. You get used to it, though. It's just the nature of the car. One other negative is that there is very little interior lighting. The overhead interior light is very tiny and doesn't provide much light at night.
