I have a 2012, black Miata MX-5 convertible with a 5-speed transmission. Highway driving in this car is an absolute blast. It's quick off the line and has a nice ride at high speeds. It's very good on gas and hasn't cost much in repairs at all. The size and trunk space, or lack thereof, are the main drawbacks.
Story
Honestly, I live a block from the ocean on the Jersey Shore, and cruising up and down the strip by the ocean is a great experience.
Pros
It's a good looking, sleek car for a relatively affordable price. From comments I've received, I get the feeling people think it's more expensive than it actually is. My favorite features are the convertible top and the manual transmission. I don't think there's any point to having a sports car if it's not manual.
Cons
It's really small. I'm 6-foot, 210 and getting in and out of this vehicle on a daily basis is a tremendous pain. When our other car is in the shop, and I drive this on the regular, my back usually pays the price. It works great as a secondary car for weekends or cruising by the beach. Don't even try driving this car in the snow though, you'll very easily get stuck, if you even get going. Also, this isn't a family car by any means. Golf clubs barely fit in the trunk

2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata - It's not always practical.

I like my little Miata for commuting to work, as it is great on gas mileage. I like that it is a convertible, and I can put the top down. It's not always practical, as it is a small, two seater. It is really fun to drive!
Story
I just love that I live on the east coast of Florida and can put the top down and drive along the inter-coastal with the top down. I was able to do this with my cousin from Ohio who never gets the great beach weather, and we had a blast.
Pros
Excellent on gas mileage -- although not quite as good as I thought it would be. I own a Mazda 6 mid-size sedan, and the Mazda 6 actually gets better mileage than the Miata. The Miata is sporty looking. The Miata is super fun to drive. I love the Mazda brand, as they are quality and last. I love that it is a convertible. I have a manual transmission, and I love driving a standard. The navy color is exactly what I wanted in a little sports car.
Cons
It's a two seater and not always practical. The trunk space isn't always practical either, as it is a small car, so it has a small trunk. It is a rag-top convertible, and the Florida sun isn't always kind to a rag top.
