I have a 2012, black Miata MX-5 convertible with a 5-speed transmission. Highway driving in this car is an absolute blast. It's quick off the line and has a nice ride at high speeds. It's very good on gas and hasn't cost much in repairs at all. The size and trunk space, or lack thereof, are the main drawbacks.
Story
Honestly, I live a block from the ocean on the Jersey Shore, and cruising up and down the strip by the ocean is a great experience.
Pros
It's a good looking, sleek car for a relatively affordable price. From comments I've received, I get the feeling people think it's more expensive than it actually is. My favorite features are the convertible top and the manual transmission. I don't think there's any point to having a sports car if it's not manual.
Cons
It's really small. I'm 6-foot, 210 and getting in and out of this vehicle on a daily basis is a tremendous pain. When our other car is in the shop, and I drive this on the regular, my back usually pays the price. It works great as a secondary car for weekends or cruising by the beach. Don't even try driving this car in the snow though, you'll very easily get stuck, if you even get going. Also, this isn't a family car by any means. Golf clubs barely fit in the trunk

My Mazda is an overall extremely well-built car, with great performance, good reliability, and is very pleasant aesthetically. I have owned my car for over six years and have not had to take it into the shop or had any problems with it. It is extremely fun to drive. You feel very connected to the road since it is a sports car. I am low to the ground, and I just enjoy riding in it.
Story
I took my car four-wheeling/off-roading and did not completing kill it. I dented one of the pipes on the underside of my car, but I took it into the body shop and had that repaired. People make fun of me for this story, but I always think of it as a victory for my little sports car.
Pros
My favorite things about my car is definitely how it looks. I drive a bright red sports car, and that definitely gets attention on its own. I think from a practical stand point, I love how reliable the car is and that I never have to worry about taking it into the shop or for repairs. I have been able to perform all my own maintenance on the car (oil changes, spark plugs, air filters) without any problems. I also enjoy the community that is around the Mazda Miata. People with other Miatas wave hi when driving past each other. I just love my car.
Cons
If I had to say anything critical about my car, it would be overall the practicality of it and the noise. I know that I will not be able to drive this car when I have a family as it is only a two-seater, which also limits my ability to carpool with friends. I also have had trouble completing moves in this car and have had to hire moving trucks to drive with me because there is no room in my car to transport items. The car also makes a lot of road noise because it is not built with a lot of the insulation that many SUVs or larger cars are. While I do not mind this a whole lot, this might be... (more)
