This van has been very reliable for us over the years that we have had it. We purchased it with cash, so it made this an easy transaction. The van has plenty of room, and the storage in the back is great. I like that you can fold down the back seat into the floor, but I wish the two bucket seats would have been stow and go. The van did not have cruise control and is one of the things that I really disliked. Overall, this is a good van for everyday use.
Story
When we stuffed our mattress in the back of the van and drove it with the back door open around town.
Pros
There is plenty of space and the storage room that you have in the back of the van is great. Even if you leave the back seat up you can fit plenty of stuff in the back. If you need more room, you are able to fold the back seat down in order to give you more space to put things.
Cons
One of the main issues I have with the van is that there is no cruise control. This made long trips more difficult and annoying. One other thing that I disliked is that there was only one set of car seat clips in the middle of the back seat opposed to having one on each side.

The Ford Freestar was an improvement over the Windstar because the third row of seating folds down rather than having to be removed and left at home for vacations. It handles well for a vehicle of its size; the gas mileage leaves something to be desired. In a hilly area, 11-14mpg in the city is typical; on long highway trips, about 23-26mpg is achievable.
Pros
Cargo space is large and flexible. The third row seats can be folded down and the second row seats moved forward to accommodate large loads. It is easy to comfortably carry three passengers and a lot of luggage and other things. The dashboard display is easy to read and gives lots of information, such as miles to empty and real-time gas mileage. Controls for the radio are also present on the steering wheel, which makes tuning the radio while driving much safer and easier to do.
Cons
The transmission went out at 50,000 miles and had to be replaced under warranty. Lots of little electrical issues keep coming up and are expensive to repair, such as the backlight for the odometer/dashboard display, the outdoor temperature display, the motor for the left passenger door. These are not covered under warranty, so it's easier to let them stay broken. The third row seats are comfortable on long trips only for children.
