1997 Ford Ranger - Less than satisfactory, but appreciative nonetheless!

In summary, I would not purchase a 1997 Ford Ranger again. The model includes an "XL" feature, which has been useful in hauling, and I appreciate that the repairs will often come more than six months apart. However, in 2016 and at about 184,000 miles, there are numerous problems that make the driving experience displeasurable. The rusting frame squeaks, the vehicle takes about 10 minutes to warm up in New Jersey's falls, winters, and springs, and it is simply not an effective manual transmission driving experience in 2016 driving conditions. The heat and air conditioning function are always "on the fritz" and seem to require half of the car's overall "power." For instance, I feel that I must push the gas pedal twice as hard and compromise my fuel economy in order to get heat -- it... (more)
Story
Finding ways to signal to other drivers that I'm driving a manual transmission vehicle in a more than average automatic driving world.

Cons
Windshield wipers needed replacing Heating/AC "on the fritz" Expensive repairs Rusted frame

Truck is very reliable. You see Ford Rangers all over the place, and that's because its one of the most reliable trucks out there. The look is clean and classy. It's not the biggest truck out there, but it gets the job done. The MPG isn't the greatest, but it still can get up to around 20MPG. Depending on which on you have, you might not have much power in the vehicle, but that's because it's so small. My 1999 doesn't have much power at all, but it has enough. The quality is awesome, and it will drive like a champ!
Story
It's always fun going camping in the truck. I have a sleeper on the back, so we can take it camping. We also go to drive-in movies and watch the movie in the bed of the truck! So fun!
Pros
I love the look of the vehicle. I have the XL with extended cab. Gives lots of room, so it's not so crammed, and if you need to have more than two people in the truck, you can do so. It's a great-looking car! I've always wanted a truck, but the newer and bigger ones are too expensive, so this is perfect for me.
Cons
Not much power at all. If you're looking for an economy car, this isn't your best bet because of its lack of MPG. You also don't have lots of seats if you have a big family.
