2001 Ford Windstar - Not my first choice, but most certainly not my last.

This is my first experience with driving a minivan. I was expecting the steering to be different than a car and maybe some getting used to. But, it really has surprised me. It handles like a smaller vehicle and I don't feel like I am sitting in the middle of nowhere when I am driving. Other than having a bird's-eye view of traffic, it's really close to the feeling of driving a smaller car. My van has power everything plus a key-less entry which is very nice. It drives good and once I purchased a super heavy duty battery along with an alternator, I have been good to go ever since. I wanted the extra space to carry my inventory back and forth to my flea market booths. The van is super easy to get in and out of. Other than normal wear and tear, like replacing the tires, she has been a goo... (more)
Story
I don't like driving in the winter because of the snow and ice. My Ford Windstar gets around perfectly in the dreadful stuff. I feel very comfortable once I get on the road. I am the one able to get to the store and the only one to make it in to work, yeah.
Pros
I really enjoy sitting up higher and being able to see traffic. If I need to haul people or furniture, there is always enough room. If it's raining? No problem. Taking her to the lake or river has been enjoyable because the air conditioning works great. Once parked, the back lifts up and it makes a great seat to take in the view. We were not uncomfortable watching the fireworks display for sure. It came with a back up alarm also. That has been super handy especially since it is my first time backing up a van. I really like the fact I don't have to crawl out of it when I get somewhere. Oh, ... (more)
Cons
With everything being powered, a super duper heavy duty battery is a must. This I had to buy myself. Occasionally something will stop working, as far as the wiring goes, but so far will correct itself in time. The motor is hard to get into because it is smashed up in there so tight. The gas mileage is not great. The blue is okay but I would rather have the color be black or gray.

2001 Ford Windstar - Good minivan for the price.

I have a basic model without any of the bells and whistles. It is an automatic with non-power doors. We have the seat configuration of two, two, and three. This allows the kids to be able to get to the back without having to either climb over a seat or take the time to put it down.
Story
Me and the girls had a sleep over at the lake, and we were able to put all the seats down and put a queen-size blow-up mattress in and sleep very comfortable (and watch movies with the DVD player).
Pros
It drives smooth. Gas mileage is about average. The interior has held up wonderful, as I have six kids, and we ride a lot. For the mileage (150k+), the few repairs/maintenance I have had done have been average in price. With using car seats (one toddler, two boosters), the kids still have room, and it is easy in and out. All seats and belts are reachable from doors without having to climb in to buckle them in. On one tank of gas we can go about 400 miles without having to stop. There are three charger plugs; two up front and one out of the trunk that is very accessible to the third r... (more)
Cons
The sliding doors seem to need greasing more than other vans I have owned. It seems that at times the back sway of the van is off and is easily pushed with being passed by big vehicles. The A/C has needed two refills of Freon. None of the back windows actually go down. The very back (third row) windows slide out about two inches, but the back seat (second row) windows do not open at all.
