2002 Ford Explorer Sport - Excellent Purchase
I bought this used 2002 Ford Explorer Sport and am pleasantly surprised. She runs great even with 200,000 plus miles. Never gives me any trouble, pretty decent on gas for an SUV.
Story
My brother's LARGE Dodge 3500 broke down and my little Ford Explorer Sport pulled him home with ease! :)
Pros
Love the boxy shape. Rides smooth. Interior is in excellent condition for its age: to tears or stains. Nice soft gray cloth interior. Plenty of room in the cargo area to carry our nursery plants. Gets 21 mpg, which is great for an SUV. Fun to drive, nice control.
Cons
High mileage (200,000+)
2002 Ford Explorer Sport - Overall this has been a great vehicle. The mechanics have been wonderful. I have had very little repairs associated with the car over the 15 years I've driven it. The interior has not held up so well. Interior does show several signs of heavy wear a tear.
The car has been great over the fifteen years I have owned it. I’ve put nearly 200k miles on it and it does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon. The four-wheel drive is nice as well.
Story
We once road about 7 deep on a trip to Florida. Normally, it only seats, comfortably, 4.
Pros
Mechanically speaking the car has held up well. I have taken this car on at least 10 (1,000+ miles) road trips with no issues. I once had a flat tire, but I won’t blame that on the car. I have changed the oil and rotated tires on a regular basis but have had very little as far as repairs go on this car. Lots of room for hauling around my stash of music gear to and from gigs.
Cons
The interior has not held up well. It started showing signs of wear pretty early on. It now shows signs of heavy wear. If someone were to buy the car they would likely want to make some repairs in that department. The gas mileage is not the best. With it being four wheel drive it is a heavier vehicle so that does add to the gas mileage issue, but the four wheel drive is nice in the off chance you get stuck in the snow or ice.
