This car has been a very reliable vehicle. I have liked how it has performed in both city driving and on the highway. I have a rather large family (4 kids) and it has fit us very comfortably on some long trips. The driver's seat is comfortable and firm. The console area is not too bulky as I'm a fairly broad-shouldered person. The trunk area is just the right size for us to store 6 medium-sized suitcases when we travel. The back seats fold down pretty easily when we need to haul some larger things.
Story
I've driven the kids to see Christmas decorations in this car. Invariably, at lease one of the kids falls asleep when we go.
Pros
The dashboard has everything I like: it's simple with not too many dials. I drive on hills a fair amount and the transmission (in "Drive") does not allow the car to "take off" when going down a hill. I like this as I like to stay within the speed limit. It's easy to attach child seats to the installed seats. I've had to change out one headlight bulb and it was very easy to do this. In a previous model, my wife was rear-ended but the car provided excellent protection. The the car was a total loss, there were no serious injuries. The indicators are about as loud as I need them to be.
Cons
The CD player and the DVD player are a bit touchy. One of the seats does not fold down easily when we need extra cargo area. Like many Fords, the engine isn't the quietest. The engine isn't loud but it isn't as quiet as, say, some Toyota models I've seen. The cup holders are a little narrow for my cups that I bring in the car.

My wife and I loved this car from the moment we drove it off the lot. It is comfortable, quiet, capable in bad weather, roomy, and efficient for the vintage. We love the seats and the feel. We love how well it's worn and how cheap it is overall. We love how it virtually never breaks down. We love the transmission and the motor. It's fantastic.
Story
We drove this car all over the region. I remember taking it to Park City Utah for Sundance film festival. I drove it to Pasadena for school a couple times, all the way from WA state. Another time I took it over the continental divide from WA to Denver. Good trips.
Pros
The car was made by Ford over a few year period when Ford owned Volvo. This vehicle really calls back to that day. The seats are comfortable like Volvo seats. It has the funny center motor mount overhead like Volvos. It has the same suspension and tie-arms and so on. I love the automatic transmission that never shifts really. I love how I can get 27 mpg on the highway even though it's a big SUV. It is extremely agile and solid in the snow and ice. Never had a single issue with motor or any major system. Just normal wear items for nearly 200k.
Cons
The AWD system has a tendency to wear out tires on the shoulders. We've never been able to get a set of tires to last more than 40k on the car before it wears them out. We've purchased very expensive 90k tires and cheapie tires and they all seem to last about the same amount of time. The transmission is difficult to properly maintain.
