2006 Nissan Pathfinder - Problematic
My husband purchased this vehicle a couple years ago and I disliked it from the start. To be fair, we bought it used which may have been the cause of some of our issues. However, even if we had bought the car new, it was not spacious on the interior for being a large SUV. The third row seating was extremely cramped and uncomfortable. Also, my husband drives an hour to work each way and the MPG on this thing is not great. The car drove like a truck, so if you're into that kind of thing, maybe you'd like it. I, however, did not and preferred a smoother ride. Recently, the radiator got a leak and it most likely wrecked the transmission. I am saying goodbye and good riddance to this car.

The only memorable story I have is breaking down on the side of the road with my two small children. Not exactly fun, but definitely memorable.

2006 Nissan Pathfinder - Affordable and reliable... so far
Overall, my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder has been a good purchase. I did purchase it used from a dealership, and it already had over 100k miles on it when I bought it. Based on what I've experienced with my vehicle and what I've learned from others who have owned a similar vehicle, in some ways I feel fortunate to have gotten the vehicle I have. In other ways, not so much.

We recently took my dad for a day-long trip to the city for Fathers Day. We were able to revisit some of the places we used to frequent when I was a kid, share stories, and catch up. This Nissan Pathfinder seems to be a good fit for what I use it for. There are two of us who live together, plus a small dog, and for most extended trips, this vehicle seems to provide exactly enough room and power to get us where we're going. Early on, I did feel the need to buy a cargo box for the roof, the upside being that this vehicle already had a roof rack for mounting the box. It also came stock with a towing kit, so I can pull a small trailer behind it. I prefer the look of this year of Pathfinder as compared to the newer ones as well. It also came stock with a towing kit, so I can pull a small trailer behind it. I prefer the look of this year of Pathfinder as compared to the newer ones as well. Even though the newer vehicles may get better gas mileage and be more reliable, I don't know that I would consider owning a newer one because I don't like the looks as much as the one I already have. Although I have had some issues with mechanical failures, I feel I could have done a lot worse and don't feel that these issues have been unreasonable, for the most part.
Perhaps my biggest gripe with my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder has been with the catalytic converters. There are four of them, each ranging from $500 to $1,200 in cost to be replaced. In four years, I have had to replace two of them. One of the new catalytic converters already needs replacing, as well as a third one, which I have yet to get replaced. This year and make, along with the same-year extras, are vulnerable to a fatal transmission failure. This failure is well-documented online, and the horror stories stemming from it are horrific. This year and make, along with the same-year extras, are vulnerable to a fatal transmission failure. This failure is well-documented online, and the horror stories stemming from it are horrific. The bulk of these failures occur at around 150,000 miles. I have almost 190,000 miles on my Pathfinder, which makes me hope that I am one of the lucky owners who will not have to experience such a failure, but it is always in the back of my mind as I continue to drive it. To be clear, I'm not listing the failure as a con, although the potential price to replace the transmission combined with the increasing total to repair and replace the catalytic converters does make me consider buying a different vehicle from time to time, and I feel it is necessary to get the word out on these things when talking to others who might be considering this year, make, and model for themselves.
