Rented the SE trim once and loved it so bought an SEL (slightly used) and have never loved a car more. I've had it for three years and have had no real trouble with it. I had a Ford Thunderbird (95) years ago and hated it. That along with Fords that my friends and family had owned had convinced me to never like or buy Ford again. But when they went through their redesign in 2012-2013, they improved a lot of what I didn't like. Having been able to test drive a 2013 Escape I was completely won over. I never thought I'd own another Ford, and now I love it.
Story
I've often complained about women who drive SUVs in my town. It's extremely common and frankly, most women try to drive their SUVs, esp. the large ones, just as they would a small car, which you can't do. Therefore I've made it a point, now that I'm a woman with an SUV in this city, to drive it as one...taking special consideration on turns, parking, etc. and other challenges unique to SUVs a... Pros
The Escape was reasonably priced and the SEL trim offers lots of great features that I love like the beautiful interior and instrument panels, leather seats, MyFord Touch, etc. Even the base model has a lot to offer with Bluetooth and very comfortable seating. There's a lot of room and a feeling of modern luxury I found lacking in similar models like the Mazda CX-5. There's enough power in the EcoBoost engine to give it a lot of get-up-and-go but keeping the mileage manageable. Very smooth and extremely quiet ride, too. I also love the 2 USB ports, AV outlet, and backseat outlet as well as... (more)
Cons
Engine compartment is a nightmare if you want to check your own battery. Half of it is buried beneath the windshield. The tank is very small as well (15 gallons) which is the same as my previous car (Chrysler PT Cruiser). While that makes trips to the pump cheaper, it also makes them more frequent. The plastic cover on the interior of the gate is also not fixed on well and came unattached at the handle within a year.

2013 Ford Escape - Upscale but not up-priced

I fell in love with this car over the steering wheel. It has at "10 and 2" added padding so it is extremely comfortable. With the SEL package there are added features making it even more comfortable. Fully adjustable seat and lumbar support which helps tremendously on long road trips. I've been pleasantly surprised with the ease of folding the rear seats to accommodate larger cargo. I often will see an idea set out of garbage pick up, such as a dresser or chair that I can refinish, and I haven't had trouble getting anything into my trunk. The sound system is amazing. Again, with the SEL, you're getting top tier. Sony sound with MyFord Touch and Sync. I just get in and go and it syncs right to my smartphone and Spotify. This is probably my favorite feature. GPS has come in handy on seve... (more)
Story
In the warmer months, people drive around with their windows down and their choice of music might not exactly suit mine. So I just turn my up loud enough that I cannot hear theirs anymore.
Pros
Sony Sound System. Ford Sync. Electric Seats/Windows.
Cons
Gas mileage is not as advertised but is not terrible. Voice activation is hit and miss.
