2002 Chevrolet Suburban - Reliable, cheap service, but gas mileage could be better.

My 2002 Chevy Suburban is an excellent car. Bought it used a few years ago. It was very well maintained by the previous owners, so that definitely contributed to the overall quality of the vehicle. Has all the bells and whistles you would expect in brand new car, but it's 15+ years old. It's very reliable. It had some problems with the battery disconnecting and the brain box, but after servicing those problems, those are the only real issues I've had with it. It's a large SUV with a V8, so of course, the gas mileage could be better, but for what it is, the gas mileage is extremely good. It has performed very well while I have owned it -- requiring less large maintenance/service jobs than I would expect for a vehicle of its age.
Historia
Several road trips up and down the east coast and throughout the Midwest. It was a blast, and the vehicle never let me down.
A Favor
I like how it has many features of newer vehicles, such as options for turning the horn beep when locking/unlocking on and off, electric seat adjustment, heated leather seats, a ceiling-mounted DVD player for the rear seats, and an aftermarket GPS entertainment system that I purchased myself for it. Gets great gas mileage for the large size of the engine and the vehicle as a whole. Being an American-made vehicle, service is very inexpensive and easy to find.
En Contra
Although it is better than most other vehicles like it, the gas mileage could still be better. It's rather loud, but again, that is to be expected with such a large engine. One rather annoying thing is it has a rear windshield wiper but no way to operate it. I've searched the user manual, the internet and asked a dealer, but there is apparently no way to use it, so I'm not sure why it's even there.

2002 Chevrolet Suburban - A great choice for large families

I love this vehicle because it is so useful. The Suburban was one of the original sport utility vehicles, and there is no doubt why. I love the roominess of the cabin and the fact I could not only seat nine people but also carry quite a large amount of cargo at the same time. Admittedly, the 2002-era base trim level is a bit plain and won't turn any heads, but it is supremely functional and made well. The engine is very strong and is capable of towing with ease. The gas mileage isn't the best but still decent on the highway.
Historia
I once took the Suburban camping and used its massive rear compartment, with the folding/removable seats as a "tent." It was like a bare bones RV. So much room when the seats aren't there. And it was a lucky choice because it rained on the first night.
A Favor
The interior space is huge, with three rows of seating and a large cargo area. I could tow large boats and other vehicles or trailers with ease. Powerful engine could carry the large mass of the truck well allowing me to pass slow cars with no problem. Having a fast car can sometimes contribute to the safety of the vehicle. I love how the stock radio sounded. Lots of speakers and a large cabin made it sound great. The large size of the Suburban, when combined with airbags and seatbelts make this a safe ride.
En Contra
The gas mileage was pretty low in the city. It seemed the insurance rates were higher on this vehicle. I would have preferred leather seats, but the trim package I got had cloth. It was a breeze to drive in most places but was often a pain to park. It would have looked nicer with some classier dashboard design.
