We bought the Ford Expedition because we needed a powerful vehicle to tow our camper, but also a roomy and comfortable vehicle to fit our family of five. The Expedition perfectly fills this roll. We can easily get packed in the vehicle for long trips with ample room still. Unlike several other third-row seating vehicles we looked at, the trunk space is still generous and we have no problem packing up. As a family that loves to travel and regularly tows a large camper, we love the tow package and how easily we can tell if the braking system is connected and working. We also have never experienced the sag where the trailer connects to our hitch because the Expedition is just that strong and powerful. It's also great that the vehicle still accelerates well despite towing a large trailer. ... (more)
Story
Our first trip towing our camper with this vehicle when camping in the Adirondacks was a breeze. We'd previously towed with a minivan and had to rely on hope and faith to make it sometimes! The Expedition moves with ease.
Pros
I always feel very safe in the Expedition. It's well built and tough, it seems like it can get through anything. The towing power is our favorite part, though.

I like the seating capacity (8), the storage in the cargo area, and the reliability. We have over 90,000 miles with no mechanical issues, but have kept up with all routine maintenance. The leather interior has held up to multiple children and the vehicle handles well in all road conditions. We use it to tow a small 24' RV and it has handled mountain passes well in 2nd gear when towing. Gas mileage is average for an SUV, running between 12 and 16 mpg depending upon the type of driving.
Story
We put 9-ply tires on our Expedition and enjoy traveling rocky mountain Jeep trails. The vehicle really gets our whole family and a few friends out and about in some places with amazing mountain views.
Pros
The Ford Expedition ELT is mechanically well designed, and has outstanding seating capacity for a large family. We use the 4x4 features quite often in snowy, mountainous terrain in Colorado. I love the towing rating (over 9,000GVWR) and the reverse camera & mapping integration is outstanding for long trips and tight parking areas.
Cons
Gas mileage could be better. Visibility out the rear window is difficult when the rear head rests are up, obscuring approximately 30% of the driver's view to the rear. Handling on steep ICY roads could be better because in 4x4Auto, there is a slight delay in the vehicle shifting traction to non-slipping tires.
