I bought my 2012 Ford Focus SE as a replacement to a Toyota Corolla since I drive over 35,000 miles per year. I liked it at first as I wanted to buy an American vehicle that was reliable. In the three years that I owned the car, I drove it over 110,000 miles. I had the 5-speed manual transmission which made for very good gas mileage, but the clutch was starting to wear, there were front-end problems, and the air conditioning needed to be recharged twice before I sold it.
Story
The trunk space is quite good as the back seat can be folded down to accommodate a large object. I ride my bicycle a lot and must transport it to the trails on occasion. Most riders have pickup trucks and laughed at my car until I was able to load my bike into the trunk.
Pros
The 4 cylinder engine was rather peppy compared to my Toyota Corolla and the clutch worked well with the 5-speed transmission. I liked the Bluetooth capabilities, the stereo, and the steering wheel controls for these options. I felt that the looks of the exterior were very stylish and the rims were good looking. The interior was also very pleasing to the eyes. The car was economical and I was able to get over 35mpg on a consistent basis. I really felt like I was doing a good thing by buying a car made by an American automobile company.
Cons
During the three years that I owned the car, the air conditioning stopped blowing cold air twice and I had to get the freon recharged. Both mechanics that recharged the system said they couldn't find any leaks. At 110,000 miles, the clutch started to slip. My Corolla went over 175,000 miles and the original clutch was fine. I drove the same routes with both vehicles. The interior may have looked good, but it was quite a bit smaller than my Corolla. I am rather mechanically inclined and like to maintain my vehicles myself. In order to change the oil on this Focus, I had to remove a felt cov... (more)

The Ford Focus SE is a very reliable car that has been updated for the modern world. The body is very stylish with just enough edge to keep it from looking like every other mid-size "mom" car. The inside is very roomy and one of the most comfortable drives I have driven. It gets great gas mileage at almost 300 miles to the last tank (10 gallons) with mostly city miles. I have gone over 400 miles on one tank with highway miles averaging about 73 mph. The acceleration is better than what you might think for a mid-sized Ford. The handling on it is superb as well as the brakes. When I get into this car after driving others I always think "WOW! This feels like home!"
Story
My fondest memory is driving this car while overseas in Italy. I have driven it several times through the Apennine Mountains as well as through the cliff cities of Cinque Terre!
Pros
This car comes with a lot of features. The entertainment system can easily be controlled through the console, on the steering wheel, or by voice. It has Bluetooth built in that will sync contacts from your phone which means you can make calls with a touch of a button on the steering wheel and simply telling the car who you would like to call. It provides for a truly hands free calling experience. You also have the option of syncing music from your phone via Bluetooth. Once this is done you can control the music from one of the many points in the car. The entertainment system also has a USB... (more)
Cons
I love most of what this vehicle has to offer however I have had problems with the voice activated commands. It took a very long time for the car to "recognize" my voice and even now she "hears" things wrong. Another major disadvantage to this car is the back seat does not split in the middle. In other cars I own you can put half of the back seat down if you are transporting longer objects but still have a back seat passenger. In the Ford Focus this is not possible which means I can not transport these larger objects with a back seat passenger or I can not have a back seat passenger. This ... (more)
