The van was a fleet vehicle at a local university before I bought it, and it has some features due to being an institutional vehicle that are inconvenient. For example, the rear heat and air conditioning controls were disabled, and the back and side door locks were set to be controlled by the driver only. The van had less than 60,000 miles on the odometer when I purchased it, but it had a lot of interior rattles and some of the upholstery was damaged. The tires that it came with were adequate but not new, so they had to be replaced early on. There is a CD player which worked fine at first but now sometimes jams or won't play some CDs. The outside lock on the driver's side front door came loose and fell into the door, so I have to enter vehicle through one of the other doors to unlock t... (more)
Story
We have been able to take trips and visit places we otherwise would not have been able to afford, because we can set up the van as a camper and avoid the cost of motels or hotels on our trips. We have visited several state and national parks and taken advantage of making the van into a camper.
Pros
The van has plenty of room, and I am able to put in and take out the back seats as needed. This allows me to use the van as a camper on occasion with a bed in the back and cabinets for storage, and it allows me to haul equipment or other large items with the back open and accommodating large items. The van also gets reasonably good gas mileage, making it fairly economical to drive.
Cons
There are a lot of interior rattles, and there are a few holes or worn places in the upholstery. The ABS brakes don't work very well, as they "warn" me of ice or slick roads when I'm driving on perfectly dry smooth pavement. The seat belts sometimes lock up when there has been nothing to warrant their locking, and I have to remove the belt and let it retract before it will work normally again.

This Chevy Astro Van has been one of the best utility vehicles I have ever owned. I bought it used, but with very little mileage on it. It has bucket seats in front and middle, with bench seat in the back. It has been a very reliable vehicle for me when I was commuting to and from work and now that I am retired, it is a good vehicle to go shopping with or on small strips. I hope to keep this vehicle until it and I die! It has only been in the shop for minor things like oil changes, tire rotation, etc.
Pros
My Chevy Astro van has been one of the best investments I have made with respect to used cars, vans or trucks. The gas mileage has been pretty good for this size vehicle and with the price of gas the way it is now, that has been a help. I use this vehicle to transport my grandkids on occasion and I feel they are safe in this vehicle. The breaking system has been excellent with no problems at all, although I am thinking that now it may need some new breaks and will be taking it in soon for that to be done.
Cons
The only negative thing I can think of for this vehicle at this time in my life (being retired now, etc.) Is that maybe we don't need a vehicle this big. Because is drives very well and has good air, etc., I will probably keep it until one of us dies, but honestly there aren't many cons with this vehicle that I can think of.

We have loved having this vehicle for our large family with six children. We bought it when we adopted two children, and needed to upgrade from our mini-van two years ago. The interior is gray, which I prefer to the brown of our other vehicles. This gets us where we need to go! It is a gas guzzler, but we prefer it over the other options on the market because we actually have the space to fit cousins and friends if needed. When needed, we can take out the back seat to fit more luggage for long trips. For camping trips, we can remove a seat to put in some of our inflatable rafts/tubes. We have even removed seats for family members to sleep in the van on camp-outs before. We have upgraded the tires and rims and my husband is now happy with the appearance of the exterior of the va... Story
We took it camping and to the lake over the Fourth of July. It fit all of our stuff nicely, and towed our trailer with ease!
Pros
+Seats 12, fits our family of 8 well. +Good towing power for our 30 foot travel trailer +Can fit extra passengers when needed, like cousins and friends +Rides well and have had no problems with it over the 20,000+ miles we have put on it in the last two years.
Cons
-Only came in white - Uncomfortable seats - Not enough cup holders or other amenities - Plain appearance of exterior and interior
