The 2004 Chevy Suburban is a great vehicle for a large family. It has third row seating and can seat eight people comfortably. It has plenty of leg room for passengers in the second and third row. It also has a very large back compartment even with the third row being used. The interior is very easy to clean and the seats are the most comfortable seats I have ever had in any vehicle. It is definitely large, so gas mileage is not the greatest. It has been great as far as not needing a lot of work. Outside of general maintenance, we have had to replace the alternator and that is it. It is a very comfortable riding vehicle. And with almost 180,000 miles the engine is still running great. The one downfall I have noticed is that in extreme hot temperatures outside when driving on i... (more)
Story
We love taking the suburban to the drive in. We can lay the third row down and make a pallet in the back for the kids to lay down and enjoy their popcorn.
Pros
Leg room, comfort of the seats, amount of seating available, storage room in the back, smooth ride.
Cons
Check engine light comes on during hot days.

Chevrolet has the best option available for large families. The Suburban seats 8 and has an extra large cargo area which my family of 6 uses for our three large dogs. In addition the Suburban offers four-wheel drive and can tow a large RV. I have over 240,000 miles on mine and it runs strong. We have had to do only basic maintenance for the last four years that we have owned it.
Story
I'm a soccer mom who frequently carpools many girls to and from practice so we have a lot of giggling always with seven girls riding along!
Pros
The size is perfect. There are three rows of seating and all have a good amount of legroom, even the rear seat. The rear seat can fold down to accommodate a lager storage need in the back. Barn style doors are very convenient and easy to use. The passenger area in the second row has its own set of climate controls. This is fairly rare for a vehicle of this age. Tinted rear windows are great for the children and provide some privacy. Running boards provide easy access for passengers of all sizes. The spare tire is stored conveniently in the storage area. It features a large storage console ... (more)
Cons
The SUV unfortunately does not have a CD player and the stereo is very low quality. This truck does not get very good gas mileage. I believe the best mileage I've recorded is approximately 15 miles per gallon. That was only on the highway and in cruise control.

Purchasing a Chevy for my SUV needs was a no-brainer. Chevrolet is known for decades as a very reputable brand with many high quality vehicles under its belt. I like the ruggedness and practicality of my vehicle's look, yet still has a sophisticated look. The mechanical aspects of this vehicle has handled well, beyond its 100,000 miles of use. What I definitely enjoy about my Suburban is the sense of security I feel when driving with my kids. Only disadvantage to third row is that seating could have included an option to seat a third person instead of storage pockets.
Story
We have traveled extensively in this vehicle, literally over 35 states in the US. We really like staging our truck like in the Chevy "Like A Rock" commercials with the nature background and one wheel up on a rock. Even though our truck is 2 wheel drive, we have never had an issue where we couldn't pass a terrain or worried about getting stuck.
Pros
- The room in this vehicle is spacious enough for a family of 8 without compromising cargo space needed when carrying around a large load. - Plenty of cupholders and storage space - Hidden compartment with lock - Bench Seating - Child Safety Features in
Cons
- Third row seat not available to seat 3 people instead of space used for storage. - Too many cupholders in first row; 1 on each door and 3 in center console, but useless when stood up to sit 3 person in front, only 2 cupholders for 2nd row sitting 3 peop
