1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Series - Dependable truck.
The 1998 Chevy C1500 has been a very dependable truck for me and my family. We bought it cash and have owned it for 3 years with no major issues. It has been a tough truck and even though it is 8 cylinders I could not tell. It has plenty of pick up and go. Everyone in my family enjoys the truck. My boys are bigger in size and they have a hard time finding a vehicle they can fit comfortable in. They fit comfortably in the 1998 Chevy C1500. The only small issues we have had is the door latches and pins wearing out. This is a small issue for us considering the truck is almost 20 years old. We drive it around town all day in a southern state and even in the summer we have never had a problem with it overheating. I have owned many cars in my lifetime and I would have to say this is my favor... (more)

I have owned many cars in my lifetime and I would have to say this is my favorite. It is the oldest vehicle we own and the other 3 are broke down. No matter if it's a long ride or a short ride; I do not worry about being stranded anywhere in this vehicle. If something does happen to this truck you can be guaranteed I will be looking for another one.
I enjoyed riding around with my husband on back roads. I have owned many cars in my lifetime and I would have to say this is my favorite. Everyone in my family has driven the truck. My son drove it for a while when he was delivering pizzas. He knew he would not be broke down on the side of the road anywhere and he said every pizza made it on time!

My favorite features on the 1998 Chevy C1500 is the simplicity of the motor. I am no mechanic but I can pretty much figure out where every part is on the truck. There is plenty of space under the hood and the parts are not compacted all together. I love knowing parts are where they have been for many years. One car we own that is a newer model has the battery under the back seat! We had to research to find out where it was at first. There are no surprises like that with the 1998 Chevy C1500. I also do not have to worry when I am out with my family in the truck because I know it will get us back home. It is very tough and dependable. There is not a lot of maintenance required. If you check the basics such as oil, water, transmission fluid, and brake fluid then you are good to go in this vehicle. Myself and my two grown boys can fit in the cab of the truck so there is also plenty of space. It may not be a showy vehicle but it is definitely a classic dependable vehicle you can pass down to your kids. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who may be short on money and needing a vehicle to get them from A to B everyday with no worries.
The only negative things about the 1998 Chevy C1500 we have experienced is the door latches and hinges. We have had to replace the hinges on the driver side door and have had to grease the latches on both doors. This is not a major problem considering the truck is almost 20 years old. Also the driver side door is obviously used more than the passenger door so having to change the hinges is no big deal. Like I stated before there is plenty of room to work on the motor if needed because the parts are not all compacted together like a lot of vehicles these days. They only problem is because i... They only problem is because it's a truck and I am not very tall I do have to climb under the hood sometimes if I want to check out anything in the back of the motor. If you want to fit more than 3 people in vehicle then this would not be the one for you because it only seats 3 people in the seat. The only thing else I can think of is where the cup holders are located. They are located in front of a vent so if you are running the air or heat then it affects your drinks. It makes it kind of hard in winter to have a cold soda in the holder because it will get hot fast.
1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Series - This truck is amazing
I bought this truck from a very close friend, who is the original owner, and also a certified master mechanic. As my first full-sized truck, and also my first American-made vehicle, I immediately fell in love with every aspect of it including the size, the color, the V8 engine, the way he engine sounds, the power, and various amenities. Amenities include stereo system, weather control system. daytime running lights, magnificent power steering, the layout under the hood, and the extended cab. I've never had a truck that runs or sound better than this truck and his engine.

Working 60+ hours every week, this truck has made my life comfortable, simple, easy and convenient. It is easy to pack the family and dogs in to take a trip with little stress or worry.

The extended cab is my second favorite feature of this truck. It is large enough for my fiancée and I to essentially "live in" comfortably when we go through extensive and strenuous periods of overtime at work. It easily hold both my partner and myself, my partner's two children, and my two dogs comfortably and happily even on long road trips. I know that I can rely on this truck to get us all safely to where we need to be. Every time I crank the truck and get on the road, the sound of the engine sends shivers of happiness down my spine, and I cannot get enough of it.

While I got the truck for a phenomenal price due to buying it from my close friend, the transmission went out completely no more than three months afterward. The 4L60E transmission that is common in Chevy, Ford and GMC vehicles has a HUGE design flaw causing failures due to the design of the "sunshell" housing. After three months I had to pay more than I gave for the truck to have the transmission rebuilt due to serious oversight in the design of this common transmission.

1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Series - Driving mom's truck.
First on the list would be great gas mileage on the highway and just driving around town. It is a little old school with roll down windows instead of electric. It has a great feel while driving it. The motor is really quiet. I like driving a truck because I don't feel all of the little bumps in the road, like you do in some smaller vehicles. It has a pretty quick pick up when you need to go faster. For example, to pass a slower driver on a two-lane highway.

Since it is an older model truck, I have been stopped several times and asked if I would like to sell my truck. I have had to decline the very generous offers. It was given to me by my mother before she passed away, and I have already promised my brother that if I ever decide to get rid of her, he is first in line.

Even though it has what some would consider a small motor, a V6, it has a lot of speed. The handling is great even on some tight turns. You can pretty much fill up the tank for about $30.00 and drive it around town all week long. It is an overall great truck.

Since it is an older model vehicle, some of the parts can be a little costly to replace. Once you get over 200,000 miles on it, a few things need to be replaced, like the idler and Pittman arms. The gauges will need to be replaced as well. One of the cons is that it only has a bench seat so it only fits three people comfortably. Not good for a family of four or more.
