I purchased this car because it was within my price range and was good on gas. At the time, I was traveling a good distance to work and I needed something that wouldn't cost me too much to fill up. I didn’t care for the fact that it had manual locks and windows, but it was affordable so I could deal with it. But then the problems started. Within the first month, there was a problem with the ignition coil failing. The car would sputter and die all the time. I took it to a repair shop and got it fixed, but later I found out it was a recall so I ended up getting a refund from the dealership. Next came this howling sound that would happen when driving on the interstate. It sounded like a horn blowing and wouldn’t stop until I got down to a speed around 45 or lower. I had to add extra weath... (more)
Story
When I first go this car I drove it to Bristol to watch the race.
Pros
One positive thing about this car is the gas mileage. I got around 34-35 mpg. I also liked that it came with an auxiliary port so I could listen to my iPod.
Cons
The negatives are all the repairs needed for the car and I don't like that it came with manual locks and windows.

I have loved my Aveo since I purchased it used for $2,000 dollars when it was 7 yrs old. It is red with a soft grey interior. It's an automatic trans hatchback, with CD, radio, and air conditioning. This car is essentially the same as the Chevrolet Geo.
Story
I love my Aveo. last year I went around fathers day to purchase a patio set. They were afraid the table would not fit in my car. I told them I had put larger and wider objects in my car with little to not trouble. They just needed to get it past the lip in the trunk where you can access the tail lights. much to the guys surprise it fit perfectly. and the chair fit just fine on top of it.
Pros
My car was the top of the line for its year. Power steering, A/C, anti-lock brakes, and CD AM/FM Radio. The gas millage is wonderful - I get around 500 miles to my 10 gallon gas tank. The hatch back allows for extra storage for moving larger objects.
Cons
At Around 10 yrs old you need to watch out for the timing chain or belt breaking, ruining your engine. My timing belt slipped after I had the car for 3 years, causing the pistons to slam in to the head gaskets nearly destroying my engine. I had to pay $2,000 dollars and and wait almost 4 weeks for the dealership to get everything repaired. The catalytic converter will randomly throw the check engine light on when nothing is wrong with it. It will go off after driving 100 miles.

When I go over 60 MPH there is something that makes a loud whirring sound and no mechanic can seem to figure it out. The interior is nice but hard to clean, I wish there was a full center console. The car has nice gas mileage and operates well for averaging 10K miles per year. I have driven it 166K miles and it had a few engine problems for a while, but now that they are fixed it seems to operate well. The car has manual operating windows which I wish were automatic instead. Overall for the amount of driving I have done I am surprised that it has lasted this long.
Story
Not fun but a memorable story. I was left in the city in the middle of the night with my driver window busted in, things stolen and my windshield shattered.
Pros
When the engine is taken care of it operates smoothly. It is not too expensive to repair with new parts, either. Gas mileage is a huge plus for me because I commute daily in a metropolitan area. If you want to replace any other thing, such as speakers or windows, it is easy to do so. I had someone break into my car through my driver window and I was able to replace it myself. The pan for transmission fluid is convenient because it has a plug that allows you to drain the old fluid before taking off the plan.
Cons
The shocks and suspension parts went out rather quickly. I am having to replace those again now. I had to replace the speakers that came with the car with a higher quality speaker.
