I bought my bright red Aveo Hatchback new at the end of 2006, and I have been very pleased with it overall. It was an inexpensive car, and there are things about it that go along with that. It always rattled a bit. The ride isn't always smooth like butter. But it has been a darn cute and reliable little car. Chevy stopped making them, and now makes a slightly smaller vehicle, the Spark. I think that may be too small for me.
Story
It does well in all weather, even major snowstorms. I've had to did it out sometimes, but then it goes!
Pros
The car is just the right size. I love that it is short (except when I am looking for it in the parking lot, when I can never see it, but I still don't really mind.) It is the right height. I can't believe how low some cars were that I used to drive, and how a person had to slink down into them. When I bought the car the trend seemed to be making the entrance to the car as high as possible, so you had to jump in. The Aveo is great. You slide in. No jumping and no slinking. Also, it is a good size for carrying ordinary cargo, though too small for anything major.
Cons
Speaking of cargo, I like the fold-down seats, but it is a negative to me that they don't go anywhere. Other cars have seats seemingly fold into the floor (and obviously there has to be room for them to go, which the Aveo doesn't have) but maybe if they folded more forward, into the backseat leg room, there would be a flatter, more versatile cargo area. The one unreliable feature of the vehicle was the ignition. There were occasional times, through the years, that it would refuse to turn, and I couldn't start the car. Eventually, there was a day when it never got over that, and I had i... (more)

I have loved this car since the day that I purchased it. The gas mileage does very well and it is my town car to run the most miles on when I need it. The hatchback helps with shopping or when I'm fitting my surfboard in there for a beach weekend. The only complaint I would have is the small wheel base and small wheels make the car an easily stuck car when in mud or sand. The good side to this is that the car is so small so it's easy to get out of a stuck position. The paint job is very good because I have another car that has been hit by the constant Hawaiian sun and the paint is faded and peeling in spots. Overall I am very pleased with this vehicle and would definitely buy it again.
Story
I went to the beach in Honolulu and we were down at the surf beach and I had parked too far over on the side of the pavement. Both of my back wheels got stuck in the sand and only one was spinning so I was confused. I later learned that it was because of the way the tires turn. Anyways I had about ten people come over and helped me push the car out of the sand and I was laughing about how easy... (more)
Pros
It gets great gas mileage and parts for the Aveo are very cheap making it easy to afford on a tight budget. The hatchback gives the car a lot of character because everything can fit in easy and without going over the seats and through a small door. The paint job is very well done and has no faded spots or peeling.
Cons
Small wheel base and small wheels makes it easy to get stuck in the sand or the mud. The air conditioner does not work but if filled with Freon it will work for a few months.

2008 Chevrolet Aveo - A decent car, but not the best

The Aveo is the smallest car that Chevrolet makes. I bought it used, but had it professionally inspected before purchase. It was determined that it had previously been in an accident. But it was mechanically sound, so I considered it a good purchase based on condition and relatively low miles. It was average looking, nothing flashy. From a positive standpoint, the first year it required only some minor repairs and basic maintenance. It did save more money than some other cars I owned. I drove it from one side of the country to another for a move, and there were zero issues. After over 3,500 miles driving it seemed to have used no oil, which was still clear. I also like that because of its size, parking was easier to find. I didn't like how cramped it was. Being a liftback, it also had ... (more)
Story
The manufacturer specifications stated a very specific weight limit in pounds, which I no longer remember exactly. It wasn't that much after subtracting passenger weight. My daughter and I packed a lot in that little Aveo to move cross-country. She, in fact, rode with her legs on top of stuff 3,400 miles (counting side trips). I was very worried about buying meals, that the little extra weight... (more)
Pros
It got decent miles per gallon. It required little maintenance the first year. It was exceptionally good on oil consumption. The monthly payments were relatively low. It was reliable overall.
Cons
It did not accelerate well at all. It was very cramped with little leg room. Struts and shocks wore out sooner than I would expect, and were pricey. Replacement parts were relatively costly. They only provided one computer key at sale, and the extra was very expensive.
