I bought my bright red Aveo Hatchback new at the end of 2006, and I have been very pleased with it overall. It was an inexpensive car, and there are things about it that go along with that. It always rattled a bit. The ride isn't always smooth like butter. But it has been a darn cute and reliable little car. Chevy stopped making them, and now makes a slightly smaller vehicle, the Spark. I think that may be too small for me.
Story
It does well in all weather, even major snowstorms. I've had to did it out sometimes, but then it goes!
Pros
The car is just the right size. I love that it is short (except when I am looking for it in the parking lot, when I can never see it, but I still don't really mind.) It is the right height. I can't believe how low some cars were that I used to drive, and how a person had to slink down into them. When I bought the car the trend seemed to be making the entrance to the car as high as possible, so you had to jump in. The Aveo is great. You slide in. No jumping and no slinking. Also, it is a good size for carrying ordinary cargo, though too small for anything major.
Cons
Speaking of cargo, I like the fold-down seats, but it is a negative to me that they don't go anywhere. Other cars have seats seemingly fold into the floor (and obviously there has to be room for them to go, which the Aveo doesn't have) but maybe if they folded more forward, into the backseat leg room, there would be a flatter, more versatile cargo area. The one unreliable feature of the vehicle was the ignition. There were occasional times, through the years, that it would refuse to turn, and I couldn't start the car. Eventually, there was a day when it never got over that, and I had i... (more)

When I go over 60 MPH there is something that makes a loud whirring sound and no mechanic can seem to figure it out. The interior is nice but hard to clean, I wish there was a full center console. The car has nice gas mileage and operates well for averaging 10K miles per year. I have driven it 166K miles and it had a few engine problems for a while, but now that they are fixed it seems to operate well. The car has manual operating windows which I wish were automatic instead. Overall for the amount of driving I have done I am surprised that it has lasted this long.
Story
Not fun but a memorable story. I was left in the city in the middle of the night with my driver window busted in, things stolen and my windshield shattered.
Pros
When the engine is taken care of it operates smoothly. It is not too expensive to repair with new parts, either. Gas mileage is a huge plus for me because I commute daily in a metropolitan area. If you want to replace any other thing, such as speakers or windows, it is easy to do so. I had someone break into my car through my driver window and I was able to replace it myself. The pan for transmission fluid is convenient because it has a plug that allows you to drain the old fluid before taking off the plan.
Cons
The shocks and suspension parts went out rather quickly. I am having to replace those again now. I had to replace the speakers that came with the car with a higher quality speaker.
