My Venture is a great van. We have had a few issues regarding the air conditioning and the fuel pump, but I am almost positive it is because we used the vehicle while living in Mexico for a year, which put both the air conditioning and the fuel pump under higher than usual strain. Music is really important to me, and I love the sound system. Nothing fancy, but the sound quality is great. We also used this vehicle while I worked in an orphanage. We have piled tons of kids in, and the van has been through quite a beating. It's really easy to clean inside and out. It's really roomy inside as well. We were able to move all of our possessions back to the united states without needing a trailer. We have had an issue with a tire, but I am pretty sure it is not a problem with the vehicle per s... I drove 4 adults, and about 12 kids to a soccer game in it. We all squeezed in REALLY tight.

1998 Chevrolet Venture - Decent vehicle to get around town

The van is a little beat up. It need suspension work, has some rust along the bottom edges of the exterior body, and it has few tears on the interior material lining the ceiling. Some of the interior plastic parts are falling off, and the rear external door handle is broken off. Besides that, the engine still runs great and it has been reliable for the 50 mile daily round trip. Most of the damage is cosmetic, so the car still runs fine without needing the repairs.
Story
Family vacation to the Smokey Mountains, we slept most nights in the back of the van in parking lots and rest stops.
Pros
The van has a strong engine that is capable of travelling long distances. The fuel tank is about 25 gallons, and it gets decent gas mileage for its size, so it usually only needs to be filled up once a week. The interior is spacious, with removable seats, making it nice for picking up large objects, such as furniture. It is also comfortable to sleep in on long trips.
Cons
The body is somewhat cheaply made. The plastic used easily breaks, including the door handle, the headlight covers, and some interior parts. Some of the light bulbs (blinker lights) are stuck in their sockets. It is an older vehicle so it has required multiple replacements, such as brakes, muffler, fuel lines, and the battery.

Was a good van. Been across the USA many times with minor problems until... the throttle position sensor went out.. which caused the transmission to not upshift from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th gear or over drive. Which is not a costly fix, as I just found out. But all and all it has preformed well. Carried all we own from west coast to the east coast.. which is roughly 3000 miles. And got excellent gas mileage during the trip. I have never had any minor problems, either, for the most part. I kept maintaining the vehicle. I have done all the work needed, so it got tune ups oil changes and air filters, wiper blades, all the basics, as well as light bulbs, tail lights, ect. So in the years we have owned it, I would say it was an adequate vehicle through all its been through
Story
first time we took it thru the snow and ice on them 14 inch rims an tires... was the las time that ever happened... we spun out.. good thing it was a flat road.. and not going down or uphill.. luckily we didnt crash into something or some one... then on them same lil tires we got stuck in the sand at the beach..lol... thank god for bonfires an beer...
Pros
Well, it seated 7 people comfortably and got good gas mileage around town and through many diverse conditions such as snow and ice and extreme heat. And during this time, it made it to over 140,000 miles before anything major happened. We have gone through 2 sets of tires, which were 60,000 mile tires and one set of brakes. Still have yet to do the rotors. But they look good from what I can tell. And I perform maintenance. Work on it all the time. Fuel mileage is around 24 to 28 miles on the highway an 18 thru 20 in the city. Which is a good thing since the newer cars are all about the same.
Cons
There were added features that should have come with this model, but were not included when the factory made the vehicle. So I got the extras and had them installed. Which was spendy but well worth it. Those things were the inside and outside temp gauges, a cd stereo player with multiple speakers throughout the van...quite spendy too for the factory equipment. Then, I got the larger 15 inch rims that were offered way back when. But that in turn cost me more money in tires since they were larger than the 14 inch factory tires and rims. That didn't last as far as mileage went...so the trade... (more)
