The Captiva is a great vehicle, albeit with a some things that could be improved. While it drives flawlessly, there have been problems with the electrical system since day one. I burned my hand once when trying to move the visor to block the sun. It turns out some wires had frayed or something had begun to heat up the rod that held the visor in place. When I took that in to get fixed, they must have messed up somehow, because the stereo volume was only about 60% of what it used to be. The driving is great, though. Very smooth riding and the handling is amazing.
Story
The past few summers, a few friends and I have driven down to the coast for weekend beach vacations. Including the front seat, I've found 4 people can comfortably sleep inside.
Pros
As stated in the review, the driving is fantastic. The handling is perfect, and it is incredibly responsive to my commands. There is an amazing amount of space in both the front and back seat, with plenty of storage space in the very back. The back seat can also fold down for more carrying space, and I once transported a 60-inch plasma TV that was pretty thick by today's standards. The Bluetooth features are really good, I enjoy being able to make calls hands-free. The inclusion of OnStar is a godsend, and it has helped me out of a jam more than one time. I've traveled over 40,000 miles in... (more)
Cons
The problems with the electrical system is my main complaint. Burning my hand, then getting much less volume from the audio system once getting that fixed is a major annoyance. There was also a problem two winters ago where the heating system quit working, making driving around during a freeze a major hassle. All these issues have been resolved, but it would have been nice not to deal with them in the first place. The only thing I'd really change is that the cup holders up front are a bit too close together, making it difficult to fit two drinks in at the same time.

I was initially interested in it for cosmetic reasons. They style of the body is very aesthetically pleasing. It has very soft edges and looks compact. The White Pearl color is very appealing to the eye as well. The material of the car was not impressive. It got dents and dings very easily, which does not help the resale value. It was pretty easy to maneuver, but I wish the turning ratio was better. It is top heavy, so you do have to be careful with speed and corners. The inside interior is nice and sleek. It has more room than it looks like it would have. Gas mileage is okay, nothing out of the ordinary. The engine is not very big so there is not "get up and go". You have to ease the car into accelerating. This can be problematic pulling onto main roads and interstates. The radio in t... (more)
Story
We traveled to Florida from Ohio in this car and it really made for an enjoyable trip. It was good on gas and didn't have any issues along the way. Everyone was able to stretch out and keep their personal things close by.
Pros
This car is great for small families and traveling. My favorite features are the leg room, the appearance of the car, and the sound system. As a whole, the car is very pleasing to the eye and sophisticated. Even though it is a smaller compact car, the room is amazing. My family of four and all of our things fit in the car very well. The sound system is great quality and has good longevity. I enjoy being able to rock out to my own personal music.
Cons
I did not like that there where no rear vents. It makes it difficult to keep everyone cool or warm. Someone is either to cold or to hot. I wish the engine was a little bigger, so I could accelerate faster. The top heavy design does make it a hazard.
