2001 Chevrolet Prizm - Reliable, dependable, low maintenance

When I purchased my vehicle, I was looking for something that is good on gas, easy on my insurance and dependable. I decided to buy the Prizm, since it's basically a Toyota Corolla with a Chevy stamp on it. I've owned it for a couple years now, and I really like it. Sure, it isn't anything special visually, but I've put minimal maintenance into it, it starts every time (even in cold Minnesota winters) and has enough get up and go for me. It gets great gas mileage, yet still has no issues hitting 70 on the interstate. It has plenty of basic options for me (CD, keyless entry, power locks and windows, etc.) and they all still work perfectly.
Story
One summer, a couple of friends and I went camping at a beach near our home. I mistakenly parked the car in the sand in a secluded area on the beach and woke up the next morning to find my car stuck. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get it out. My friends and I, with the help of one other guy who happened to be out walking his dog, were able to lift the back end of the car high enough for u... Pros
The biggest draws to the Prizm are the fuel economy and reliability. I've known others who have owned Prizms and have always been pleased with them and had few issues. I have owned the vehicle for two years now and have had no mechanical issues, even with it being 14 years old and having 140,000 miles. I also love the fact that I can fill the tank for a little over $25. I've owned larger sedans and have always been disappointed with the gas mileage, but not with this car.
Cons
The only real drawback to the Prizm is the size - it is a subcompact, so it's pretty small. It does have a back seat, and yes, I have seated 5 full size, grown adults inside, but it wasn't exactly comfortable. I use the car to get back and forth to work, which is only a few miles from my home, but I wouldn't recommend the car for larger families. That being said, I'm a 6'1" adult and fit fine inside.

2001 Chevrolet Prizm - Cheap and reliable -- except for engine oil consumption issue.

I bought this car as a professional mechanic from a customer after the engine failed due to low oil from a known, common engine oil consumption problem with these engines in the first few years of manufacture. I was able to replace the engine with one from a newer Corolla (2007) which does not have the oil consumption problem. Due to this failure, I was able to purchase it for a very low price. It took some time to find a good engine that did not have the oil problem at a good price.
Story
The ability to slide around corners in the snow or dirt with the mechanical parking brake handle is especially fun due to the weight balance of these.
Pros
The Chevy Prizm, (which is nearly identical and was made on the same assembly line as the Toyota Corolla and Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix) is a great car for saving fuel and running around town as a city car. The trunk is very big for a small car. They are very reliable (as are most Toyota products) except for the mentioned oil consumption problem. I especially enjoyed the handling for such an economy car as the weight balance is nearly 50/50. If you take it for the economy car that it is, it is a good deal.
Cons
Other than the mentioned oil consumption problem (only certain years), there are a few cons. Although they are typical for such a low-cost automobile. The biggest complaint I had was the unsupportive front seats: the seat backs were very flimsy and very flexible. Another major complaint would be the three-speed auto transmission (some have 4sp) and lack of highway gearing. The RPMs would run very high at 60 mph and above, which hurt the highway fuel economy. Another problem with my particular trim was lack of cruise control. If you take the car's price into consideration, these are not... (more)
