The '06 Silverado 1500 HD has been a fantastic vehicle. I've only ever had a few minor issues with it, but overall, it has held up for the last decade extremely well. Despite numerous off roading and daily driving in a large city, the body has held up extremely well with very little denting. I can haul just about anything and have never needed to worry about power. It never feels like I am driving too much truck for daily work commutes or that I am overpowering the road, so it makes the switch between fun off-road vehicle to "I need this to go about my day" vehicle extremely well.
Story
Had to move a church Christmas display to our new building as a bit of a last minute thing one year. No one else was available who had a truck, and we managed to fit almost the entire display into the back (baby Jesus and a single lamb went in someone else's car, as they were small enough). Was able to get everything taken down, loaded, moved and set back up in about an hour, so we didn't have... (more)
Pros
Very sturdy. Haven't had any issues with much body damage, despite the tough work I put it through. Interior has held up very well, and despite me not taking the best care of the interior, the material still cleans up well and looks wonderful. Have never had much issue with the electronics. Radio reception is also top notch for whatever reason; I've had reception in a place or two that friends in other vehicles have not. Not sure if it's just antennae placement or what, but it's definitely been useful a time or two!
Cons
Only big issue I had was some faulty wiring in the doors, which lead to the window mechanism and the locks needing replacing. Fuel economy isn't perfect and is about the only thing that makes me consider upgrading to a newer model sometimes.

When I first Seen the truck, I have to admit, that I was extremely impressed by the exterior design of it overall. The color (a beige tone) just seemed to fit and go along with the size and type of tires, the chrome 18" rims, the chrome grill, running boards and even the lift package of the truck. I was definitely surprised by how QUIET it was, being a diesel and how smooth it drove. Completely unlike any other diesel truck out there at that time. I loved that truck more than any vehicle I've ever owned.
Story
Was visiting family in Nebraska and drove on the roads thru their cornfields when the snow just Dumped down, turning everything into a sloppy mess of mud. This truck not only got us thru some extremely deep mud ruts but still looked awesome after getting dirty.
Pros
I admit, when I first drove it, I knew nothing about diesel engines or Alison transmissions; but I have to say after owning it, I would definitely purchase another with similar specs. The interior was clean from the carpet to the dashboard, in design. It was spacious enough for my family, durable enough for the terrain, powerful enough for work and sleek enough to look amazing.
Cons
Unfortunately, maintenance on this truck was just expensive; which was a downfall. From the frame always needing parts replaced nearly every two months to the electrical system; ex: dashboard lights going in and out, cd player not playing cd's or just not releasing them and having to get alignments far too often because of the differentials losing oil due to bearings going out. Was just far too expensive to keep.
