1993 Ford Ranger Owner Ratings & Reviews

1993 Ford Ranger -
I like my Ford Ranger overall. For being 25 years old, it has held up rather well. I have much newer and much older vehicles in the past, and found that some vehicles fall apart after 10-15 years of use. This Ford has lasted long enough now to be officially called a "Classic" and it has surprised me how reliable it has been.
Story
The first time I drove the truck, the hood flew up and open because I failed to latch it closed when inspecting the engine compartment. Nothing got damaged but it scared me pretty good.
Pros
The Ford Ranger that I own drives very well. It provides a comfortable ride and good suspension for a truck. It also gets very good gas mileage, mostly due to its 2.3 liter four cylinder engine. It can haul most of the light duty stuff I need to haul in its bed, and is very quiet at highway speeds. Parts are readily available for this truck at good prices, and it is fairly easy to repair when needed.
Cons
The only complaints I have about this truck are that it cannot tow a trailer, and it is a little low on power. Due to having a 3.55 final drive gear, and only 98 horsepower, this truck is not recommended for towing by the manufacturer. Another problem is poor acceleration and anemic power output. Merging into highway traffic in this truck is more stressful than I am used to experiencing. I wish I had the V6 model with higher gears so that I could accelerate quicker and be able to haul a trailer.
1993 Ford Ranger - Great 4x4, reliable and easy to work on.
My Ford Ranger has been one reliable vehicle. I can let it sit for a month, and it will start right up. When I have had issues with it, the truck is very easy to work on yourself, and there is a wealth of information on quick fixes for common issues with the truck. Gas mileage is decent for a 4x4 truck. Speaking of 4x4, the truck has never left me stuck. It is an absolute joy to drive off road. I would probably purchase another one some day as this generation of the Ranger specifically is the best for driving off road. Great cheap truck.
Story
I went through a mud puddle to the point where the truck was up to its headlights in mud and water. I just kept on the gas, and it chugged right through with no issues. It was a great experience.
Pros
Easy to work on. Great performance off road. Gas mileage is decent. Parts are very easy to find. There is a great community around Rangers that is very helpful if you need advice on how to fix things. Tough as nails and always stars up.
Cons
There is a lack of power, which is an issue. The electronics are iffy at best and go out often. It has a very small cab. If you have a manual transmission, if the slave cylinder goes out, it requires you to drop the transmission, unlike most vehicles where you can change it out on the outside of the transmission. It is a very expensive repair.
