This truck is almost perfect for me. I went with the SuperCab version because I rarely have more than one passenger, and I wanted the extra foot of bed. It's a bit warm-blooded, as the engine and/or transmission are a little rough until it's warmed up. I only do light towing, so the Ranger is more than adequate. The technology leap from 2011 is impressive, particularly the Adaptive Cruise Control. It's nice to plug my iPhone in and run Waze on the dash display, but occasionally Sync 3 disconnects itself.
Story
I was looking forward to the trip to New Orleans my mother and I were taking until we reached the airport. Suddenly I had a panic attack at the thought of having to fly. Dad, bless his heart, did everything he could to calm my nerves. “You know, you’re safer in a plane than you are in a car,” he reminded me. That reassurance eventually worked. He gave me a loving kiss on the head, then asked m... (more)
Pros
Smooth and nicely equipped. Pulls my 4000 pound boat easily. Averaging 23 miles per gallon. Fit in my garage. Like it better than my 150.
Cons
While the Ranger isn’t as small as the Hilux, the truck many American off-road and Toyota enthusiasts wish they could have, it should be the smallest truck on offer in America. It should be about an inch narrower than any other U.S. pickup and have one of the shortest wheelbases. In theory, this results in a truck that fits down tight off-road trails and is easy to park and maneuver around the city. It also means that it will wind up with less interior room than many competitors. The interior did seem snug when I poked my head in at the auto show. Tall, lanky Americans like me like our hea... I like the four-door option with four-wheel drive. The engine is very powerful. I do not like the lack of aftermarket products. The interior is well designed and very quiet. The four-door option does not have the bounce problem the two-door option has. If you are gentle on the gas pedal, you get very good gas mileage. I get are 25mpg combined.
Story
I enjoy taking it out hunting and keeping up with all the full-size trucks when off road, even though I have a smaller truck that is theoretically less capable.
Pros
The four door and four-wheel drive are my favorite features. The gas mileage is also very good.
Cons
Only comes in a short bed, very large price increase to get heated mirrors because you have to get all the luxury items or none.
