I grew up loving the Chevy Corvette. The lines of the C3 body, the model produced from 1968-1982, called to me like a siren of the sea. Though it has the word Stingray on the side, it is no bottom feeder. The 'Vette exudes the menace of a shark, and roars like a lion when unleashed. Over 35 years old today, it still can smoke a newer machine off the line. Nothing feels as gratifying as leaving some fool a Honda Civic in a cloud of exhaust, and nothing does it quite like the 'Vette. T-tops are one of the greatest ideas in automotive history. They don't leak or make a lot of noise like convertibles, and the car looks slick with them off. A car of this year can be had now for a much cheaper price than when I bought mine. Anyone who is a fan should buy. Even a fixer-upper is an improvement... (more)
Story
Once, a redneck in a pickup truck wanted to race me at a stoplight. That turned out poorly. For him.
Pros
I never go out without getting a few compliments. Unfortunately it's usually dudes, but there are some appreciative ladies out there. I've made many a superficial friend driving that car. The power of these machines cannot be denied. Even if racing isn't your thing, you have bursts of speed and supreme handling when you need it. The T-tops are grand. Pulling them off on a nice day and cruising relieves the stress of work any time. These machines are easy to service. Old engine compartments are very forgiving on space. Even the fuel efficiency isn't as bad as some cars. No amount of space c... (more)
Cons
Whoever decided the battery needed to be in a bucket behind the driver's seat should be shot. Just try getting a jump if it goes! On a car this old, some bolts may rust in place. The frame is fiberglass, but the chassis and parts are still metal. Use a lot of lube before trying to loosen an old bolt. One problem I had is that some service stations refuse to work on it because of liability issues. I have to take it to a Chevy dealer everything I can't do myself. The weather stripping is starting to crumble, but kits are available for that. The worst thing is the stereo. Unless you like cass... (more)
