My HHR has a great look and wonderful storage space. I really like the retro body style and appreciate that even the internal gauges look a bit old fashioned. I've had great luck being able to fit things inside this car. I go antiquing a lot, and this car allowed me to fit all my finds inside! I attend a large hobby convention every year, and due to the storage capacity, I have been able to bring more merchandise and make more sales. I have not had the best luck with maintenance however. I have had the car into the shop every year I have owned it to have the air conditioner fan worked on, and there have been other electrical problems that have cropped up. The CD player does not work consistently and seems to overheat. The turn radius is great, and I have been very impressed wit... (more)
Story
Being a Kentucky girl, it is always important to be able to carry my horse tack in the car! Recently, a friend bought a large number of used brides and horse harnesses, and I agreed to clean them up for her. I had plenty of room to lay out all the leather straps and keep everything from getting tangled up.
Pros
I absolutely love the space it provides! I also really like the look of the car and the body shape.
Cons
I've had some maintenance issues with the car, particularly in regard to the electrical system. I have had to have the air conditioning fan worked on many times -- a shop that I have a great deal of confidence in has had to address the same issue over and over, and I am quite confident due to their other work for my family that it is a problem with the car and not with the mechanics.

2009 Chevrolet HHR - Reliable car with some space in the hatch!

The HHR was initially a model we rented for a trip, and we immediately fell for it; it is spacious in the hatch, it is decent in gas mileage, and it is honestly just a reliable little chugger! We've now owned two, a 2007 and a 2009 HHR. The 2009 we purchased used, and it has been a fine daily drive with no issues. I wish Chevy had not canceled production of the model because I would keep purchasing them in the future if they hadn't!
Story
I took the car on a camping trip that rained out, and the space in the back gave me somewhere to sleep!
Pros
Gas mileage is an easy plus. It's no hybrid, but it is a nice, gas efficient vehicle for daily drivers in either city or suburb. The space in the back is a nice feature for parents, as I can fit a great deal in the back of the car...much more than I was ever able to fit in traditional car trunks. The styling is a plus; they look interesting, unlike any other model, and if nothing else, it helps you to pick them out in a packed parking lot. The condition of the car, overall, is another perk. Neither of my two HHRs ever really showed much wear or broke down, and I typically purchase highe... (more)
Cons
The stereo -- the wires seemed to have detached a bit, so the bass was intermittent, but that's an easy fix.
