2009 Ford Explorer Owner Ratings & Reviews

2009 Ford Explorer - Sturdy and Spacious
I have had the car for 4 years and it hasn't had much issues. I rarely have to take it to the shop and half of my visit has mostly been routine check ups. The vehicle requires a bit more pressing power to actually get it moving compared to other vehicles but I personally consider this a plus as I feel other cars are a bit too jumpy. I regularly use the vehicle to carry many musical instruments and video games from between gigs and party often having many people in the car. If you need a vehicle that can accommodate a lot, take a lot of beating, and asserts dominance on the road I personally recommend this car.
Story
The hilarity of trying to pack a bunch of instruments and people into the car like a game of Tetris and then later emerging out of the car like it's a clown car. It's really funny and you won't believe how many people we've managed to fit into this one car.
Pros
A lot of space for both people and objects, such as being able to fit a double-bass, a guitar, a PC, a music game pad, 3 amps, a trombone, AND 4 people.
A lot of space underneath seats.
Does not need as much maintenance as other vehicles.
It can take harsh weathers like dirt roads, sleet, rain, and ice relatively well.
Modest price tag for what you are getting.
Cons
It doesn't have the fastest acceleration and requires a decent amount of actuation force on the foot pedal before it starts moving.
The horn is surprisingly low for such a big car, but this might've been a personal issue since every time I went to a mechanic this hasn't been brought up.
2009 Ford Explorer - Money suck.
The seats are uncomfortable for any time frame. It has had multiple electrical issues, and many times the lights don't do as they are supposed to. Have had to replace the same thing on the drive shaft twice in less than a year. The air conditioner has stopped working, as well as the defrost due to electrical issues yet again. Is no longer reliable, and I worry about going any where too far away.
Story
It has taken us on several off-road adventures and camping trips. Did not get stuck in the snow like others did when we had several weeks of very heavy snow.
Pros
It has enough room for seven people, so we are often able to have others ride with us. It has room in the back for a lot of stuff, so large shopping trips are easy. And trips to go camping I am able to fit in all our family will need for a trip. The radio works well, and the speakers sound pretty good. It gets fairly consistent gas mileage compared to other SUVs.
Cons
Needs a lot of things fixed all the time. Drive shaft and tire rod replaced twice. Many electrical issues. The CD player has a CD in it but will not eject, says the CD is unreadable. Air conditioner does not work, neither does the defrost. Not having a defrost in Idaho winter is very dangerous. It's been told to me it is because of electrical issues. The interior lights have never worked. When it gets cold, the automatic window feature just flat out doesn't work.
