2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty - Worth the cost, if you need the power

The F-250 superduty is an absolute beast. It will break the speed limit up most hills with a trailer behind if you need it to. It's big and heavy, hard to turn/maneuver, but if you're going in a straight line, it pulls its weight and then some. Very few things on this truck ever break, which is good because the parts are all big heavy and expensive. The weight does play hell with the shocks and suspension. You will want to upgrade the shocks. Also, this power means that you will never ever get better than 16 mpg... I wouldn't be surprised if this truck somehow used a gallon of gas rolling down a hill with the motor off. Word to the wise- never attempt to do any work on the interior of this vehicle. It just won't go back together the way it used to be- once the dashboard has been remove... (more)
Story
I took this truck up California Highway 36 a few times from Fortuna, CA, to Redding and points beyond. Highway 36 has narrow hairpin turns and other hazards which make it a challenge for most vehicles. For the F250 it's just plain scary, but I love to drive and kind of enjoyed the challenge, and if you drive right, and don't encounter any maniacs headed the other way in the narrow parts, you c... Pros
The air conditioner still works great after 18 years without parts replacements. I've never been able to put enough weight in it to have a serious impact on speed or acceleration. People get the hell out of the way of a truck this big. There's room to spare for pretty much anything you want to carry in it.
Cons
It burns fuel fast, it's hard to park/U-turn, most of my friends and family refuse to drive it because it feels even larger than it is when you are behind the wheel, and I simply cannot keep the shocks and suspension in perfect working order, probably because it's a heavy truck.

My 2000 ford f250 super duty truck has been one of the most dependable vehicles that I have ever owned. I bought it with over one hundred thirty thousand miles on the odometer and I believe it is just getting worn in. It can handle towing any load I have thrown at it, which at this point has been 10000 lbs from the class V bumper hitch. With its 8ft bed I can fit plenty of building supplies or tools that I will need. The diesel engine makes plenty of power and torque while not being too harsh on the wallet at the pump. I have driven and owned many trucks and this is by far my favorite.
Story
i drove this truck from ohio to nebraska and back, as well as ohio to new mexico and it was the perfect road trip vehicle. It has plenty of space to sleep in while someone else drove and its large fuel tank meant we could drive for 6 hours on the highway between tanks. driving to new mexico through the heartland of America in this American pickup was amazing and we got to see plenty of sights,... Pros
For a full size 4x4 pickup the gas mileage was pretty good, around 18 miles to the gallon. It also has plenty of power to tow or haul a variety of items. Interior cabin space is plentiful with the supercab option that it is equipped with.
Cons
Using diesel fuel means that the price per gallon is much higher than regular gas, and with a 38 gallon tank it is pretty expensive to fill from empty. With its long wheelbase the turning radius suffers making parking difficult. Tires must be load rated making them more expensive than standard light duty truck tires.
