This Ford 250 Super Duty is highly useful for towing a three horse slant trailer readily. It is so powerful that it seems like the trailer, loaded with three horses is not even being towed. It is necessary to be mindful of its speed but that is good because it handles and maneuvers fairly well so can quickly move out of any tight spot. It does not lose power going uphill either. The interior is well designed. The dashboard displays are ready to read. The heating and AC systems work really well, in fact, the A/C can freeze you out. The seats are adjustable to the driver’s needs so it is comfortable to drive. It is really easy to shift it into four wheel drive but you do have to go out of the vehicle to turn the wheel locks. However, when in four wheel drive it is unlikely to get stuck i... (more)
Story
It has been very reliable for my purposes of towing a horse trailer. I have never been stranded with horses because of any mechanical failure of the truck and I have made some long trips towing horses.
Pros
I like that this Ford 250 Super Duty is big and powerful. It is a match for any truck on the road. One sits up high in it and can look down and see traffic well.
Cons
Unfortunately, this Ford 250 Super Duty is a gas guzzler and that is a big drawback. It probably gets about twelve miles to the gallon. It also has a wide turn radius which is a bit of a bit. It needs a lot of room to turn around.

I love this truck. I hate this truck. I love it because the engine seems like it will last forever. We have not modified this truck, only made repairs to it over the years as they were needed. The 2003 model year was the last year for the PowerStroke 7.3 liter diesel engine and it is not as complex as modern diesel engines. As long as the engine is maintained, I don't see any reason why it will not outlast any of our other vehicles. I hate this truck because it constantly needs 'something'. We have recently begun to experience electronics gremlins and problems with our suspension. I imagine with these repaired, this truck will easily last another 200,000 miles, however. The body / cabin of the Ford Superduty line has essentially remained unchanged since the 1999 model year. The cab it... (more)
Story
Our model has the 8 foot long bed. Once, when camping I managed to fill the entire bed with camping supplies for a short weekend trip. My husband commented that he needed a bigger truck.
Pros
- Engine is solid and reliable. - Most repairs can be performed by a shade-tree mechanic. - Most repairs I have had to make so far were less than $100 in parts. My husband has provided all of the labor. - Pulls whatever we need it to. - Spacious cabin.
Cons
- Ford vehicles are plagued with electronic gremlins as they age. This truck is no exception. - This truck is BIG and not as much fun to park as a small car would be. - Due to the weight, the truck does require suspension work as it ages. - Diesel is stinky. - Low fuel economy. - Cost of diesel.
