The 1993 Ford Mustang LX is a great little car. It has performed well for 186,000 miles, with only the repairs you might expect after that many miles (e.g., alternator, water pump, timing belt). The air conditioning works well. There is no loss of power when it is in use. Highway gas mileage is 35 mpg, city driving gets 21 mpg. With a 2.3L engine, it is a little bit underpowered. It cannot maintain speed on steep hills. When entering the highway, one must make sure there is sufficient room - 0 to 60 is 3 s is not possible in this car.
Story
This was a great car for driving cross-country. Even with the a/c running, the gas mileage can't be beat.
Pros
The top positive thing about this car is that it is easy for the home mechanic to work on. The engine bay is roomy, unlike modern cars where the parts are packed in as tightly as possible. Most parts are easy to reach either from above or below. I have saved a lot of money on routine maintenance by doing it myself.
Cons
The main negative is the lack of room in the cabin. I have to arrange my friends carefully when I give rides so that tall people are not squished.
