2000 Chevrolet Blazer - Great value, great car!
The 2000 Chevy Blazer is a great all-around vehicle. It handles well in all weather, has great cargo capacity, and overall flexibility. The version owned includes a shift mechanism in the dash to switch between rear-wheel drive, four hi, and four low. It is a fantastic piece of kit for rough weather. I've driven it through three feet of snow with now issues. It just powered on through. It also handles well off road in tough conditions. While it's great for the worst of times, it is not the best road trip car. The overall gas mileage does not hold up well against more modern cars, but it's great for local travel or if you need to cover long distances in rough weather. It handles rust well, and if you keep it clean and maintained, it will keep going. Treat it well and it will last. The o... (more)

All in all, the best part of this model is the included tape player. You can enjoy all your old tapes in any weather and in rough terrain.
The best time was when this car saved the day. As I've mentioned a lot, it got me through three feet of snow to pick up my wife from work.

The car is durable and handles all roads and weather. I drove it through three feet with no problem. It was simple to switch the car into all-wheel drive four low, and it just powered through. When I got pulled into a drift, with a little patience, it provided the power the get clear. After the weather cleared, it was also just as easy to switch back to rear-wheel drive.
As mentioned, the cargo capacity is fantastic. When the seats are folded down, I could easily fit two bikes in the extended trunk along with luggage. It's fantastic for outdoor adventures like camping and hiking in remote... (more)

As mentioned, the cargo capacity is fantastic. When the seats are folded down, I could easily fit two bikes in the extended trunk along with luggage. It's fantastic for outdoor adventures like camping and hiking in remote places. You can pack a lot in there for whatever your needs are. The boot also includes a handy cover you pull across your cargo to keep it in place should the road become rough. And speaking of rough roads, the suspension is pretty great! It's light on its feet and will keep you headed in the right direction. The media options are fantastic with the aforementioned cassette player, and there is always the option to upgrade to a CD player. Overall sound system provides a quality sound and great bass.
So in the overall review I mentioned that the build quality was great and that it handles rust well. This is true but it requires a lot of proactive and preventive steps to avoid problems. Regular car washes are important. Once the rust starts to set in, there are two things that will likely become issues. First, the door hinges. I've noticed over time that I need to oil the hinges every now and then to keep them operating smooth. More importantly and second is the spare tire. I've noticed over time that I need to oil the hinges every now and then to keep them operating smooth. More importantly and second is the spare tire. The tire is mounted to the under side of the vehicle under the trunk area. It can be lowered via a winch with the provided tire iron. However, once that rust sets in, the only way to free that tire is to cut it loose as the winch will no longer work. I think the only other minor issue I've had is with the door panels. Over time, the tabs that hold the plastic molded piece to the door frame loosen and will need to be replaced to keep the door from banging around. If it does come loose, it is a minor issue, but you may have trouble closing the door.
2000 Chevrolet Blazer - Tough and sturdy
I bought this vehicle used, with it already having a few problems, but I still think it is a good vehicle. I have learned that some of the problems this vehicle has are common among this year/make/model of vehicle. It is a 4x4 SUV that goes well through the snow and has no problems moving a load, if needed. I would recommend this vehicle, new or used, to anyone with some mechanical knowledge looking for a sturdy SUV.

I live in northern New Hampshire, so the snow can get pretty deep during the winter. This year I was traveling home from work during a pretty bad storm and saw a bunch of cars stuck or off the road. I was able to make it home without any issues.

This is a 4x4 vehicle that handles well in winter conditions. You can switch between two, four-HI, and four-LO from right inside the car. I have had vehicles in the past that you had to get out and lock the hub caps, and that was just a pain. There is plenty of room inside the vehicle. Everyone in my family is 6' or taller, and we all have plenty of leg room when we are together. For an older SUV, it gets relatively good gas mileage. The rear seats also fold down so that you can fit larger items into the back.

Some of the problems that my vehicle is currently having I have found out are common in this year/make/model. My gas gauge does not currently work, so I have to use my mileage to calculate how much gas I have. Also, the 4x4 actuator sometimes skips and doesn't switch into four-wheel drive when it says that it has. Again, these are both common problems for this vehicle. Also, although I think that the gas mileage is decent. It is an older SUV, so it will cost more in gas than a new SUV or smaller vehicle in general.
