We purchased the Expedition used from CarMax; it was two model years old and had just over 50K miles on it. We were looking for a larger car that could comfortably fit my family of five, plus any friends or family members that wanted to tag along. This seemed to fit the bill, plus it had the towing package for any future toy purchases. In the 3+ years we've owned it we have put nearly 40K additional miles on it and the only service it requires is gas, brakes, tires, and oil! It is the most reliable, comfortable, and versatile vehicle I have ever owned.
Story
We took a spring break road trip up the west coast to the mountains from our home near the beach in Southern CA. From air conditioning at home, to full blast heater and 4-wheel drive in the snow up the in mountains, we never had to worry about the Expedition. It allowed us a great family vacation that I will cherish for many years to come!
Pros
The best feature is the versatility of the seating arrangements! Having three kids trapped in the car on road trips can be difficult at times. However, the seating arrangement allows me to create physical distance between the kids so those "difficulties" become less frequent and severe. :) The ride of the Expedition is very smooth and it doesn't have the feeling of being in a large truck. But when you need the power for towing or passing, it is still there!
Cons
When the third row seat is being completely used there is virtually no trunk space. You are left with about enough room to fit a backpack or small cooler.

2011 Ford Expedition - Spacious and comfy.

As a busy mom of three kids with one playing competitive sports I wanted something big and roomy without looking like a mom wagon. The expedition is it! The third row folds completely flat in to the floor so we have plenty of room to pack all our sports gear, coolers, chairs, tents, etc. for a weekend at the ballpark. I can get two car seats and one booster seat into the middle row and my kids do not feel cramped at all. I love that it has dual climate controlling since my husband and I very rarely agree on what the temp should be.
Story
My kids love while driving through a local national state park standing on the console and hanging out the sunroof.
Pros
There are so many pros to the Expedition. I love the smooth ride it has. I love the way that I set up higher in a seat that I can automatically adjust to different heights or to give me back support. There is the dual climate control, the sunroof, the entertainment system with everything from basic AM/FM radio to satellite radio. I love that it allows me to be a mom and get groceries and haul kids around without looking like a dumpy mom vehicle.
Cons
The only negative thing that I can think of is that the leather on the seats didn't hold up very well and that it doesn't have great gas mileage.
