The removable top makes the coupe into a much more open and visceral driving machine. The V8 engine relies on a push-rod design, but in return for the lack of updates, you have an engine capable of incredible tuning with very little expense. There interior is mostly about function with leather seats that fit like a glove and an adjustable tilt and telescoping steering column. Instrumentation is all digital with the lone exception of the odometer, and power everything made this car very futuristic for its day. There is no reason to buy one of these cars if you're shy. It's impossible to go anywhere with out turning heads and getting friendly waves from pedestrians and other drivers. You'll get where you're going fast, but once you're there, expect to be stopped by people who want to tal... (more)
Story
Drove this car non stop from Dallas, TX to Las Vegas, NV. It was amazing to be out on sections of deserted freeway and suddenly realize you were going over 100 MPH. Driving across Hoover Dam with the top off is a particularly memorable moment.
Pros
Looks. Speed. Performance. Handling. Interior comfort. Removable top. Adjustable steering column. Leather seats. Built-in storage for the top in the rear compartment. Highway MPG. Pull out cargo cover to hide anything in the back while shopping. Automatic shifts very well. Overdrive saves gas but can be turned off for performance.
Cons
Tires are expensive. City MPG is on the low side. Too much plastic used on the interior. Cargo space is limited.

The Corvette we had was a gorgeous black 1989 Chevy Corvette with a removable hard top. It was really a lot of fun to drive and had a lot of power, but with two kids, it was extremely impractical.
Story
Going for Sunday drives with the top down and Garth Brooks blaring on the cassette player was a lot of fun!
Pros
It had a lot of power and was very easy on the eyes. We always got a lot of looks when we drove it. It also handled great and was a lot of fun to drive on the open road. If you don't have kids and like the nostalgia of older cars, this car is for you.
Cons
The gas mileage wasn't good at all, especially given our attempts to be more environmentally friendly. We love older-style cars, but we do like modern amenities such as navigation, heated seats, mp3 player, etc. and the only thing the Corvette had was a tape player, which was a cute novelty at first but quickly became old and inconvenient. We also had two young kids at the time and it did not have a back seat, so it was strictly an occasional fun car, but we had to get rid of it before our oldest got his driver's license just to avoid any temptation on his part - and a huge increase in...
