I did not originally go in to the dealership to buy the Traverse; I was in love with the Acadia and had no desire to look at anything else. However, I quickly saw that I could get all of the features of the Acadia and more for a better price. I felt like I was driving a luxury vehicle with all of the upgrades! I love the roominess -- plenty of space for my three kids and their friends, the smoothness of the ride, the quiet motor, and the elegant lines of the body. It was also very reliable, even after I had logged quite a few miles!
Story
Our car is fun to take for a drive because of the sun and moon roofs. Our kids love to roll all of the windows down and push the button to open up both roofs, and then turn up the radio as loud as I will let them! They will sing and let the wind blow through their hair. They also like to wave at random strangers and smile as we drive around town! We have great family time in our car as I taxi ... (more)
Pros
My favorite things about my vehicle are the butter leather seats, the captains chair seating in the middle row, and the extra three seats in the back row. I love the automatic trunk opener (essential when grocery shopping with young kids), the remote start (perfect for freezing mornings), my sun and moon roofs, and the DVD players built into the seats. I also love how the seats glide back and forth at the push of the button, the radio and cruise controls on the steering wheel, and On-Star which means I can never get lost or be without help!
Cons
There is a bit of a "drag back" when stopped at the top of a hill. I am always worried that I am going to roll back into the person behind me when I take my foot off the brake. Sometimes I will use both feet so that I can make sure that I can hit the gas more quickly! I also don't like the limited trunk room when the third row seats are up, but I feel that issue is a problem for all crossovers with third rows. I don't want a minivan, so I have to put up with it!

2009 Chevrolet Traverse - Adequate vehicle for my needs.

My vehicle currently has just under 130,000 miles on it and is in good working order. Just over 100,000 miles the steering wheel column seals had to be completely replaced which even the dealership said happened much earlier (mileage wise) than it should have. While it has a lot of space, it is difficult to view out the back so parallel parking, backing into parking spaces, and other actions are difficult. A rear-view camera helps but not completely. So far it has had 4 recalls from the manufacturer although none of them were that serious. I suppose this can happen because it is the first year of this model and so small bugs or other issues can happen but are usually fixed later in the follow-ups.
Story
I ended up getting very lost looking for jobsite and my gaps was taking me completely the wrong way. I was actually on something of a jeep trail that was normally impassable and not used to get to where I wanted to go. Although I had a lot of trouble driving on that trail and thought I had damaged my vehicle because of rocks, dips, and uneven terrain, I actually didn't do anything to it and th... (more)
Pros
Rear-view camera and motion sensors for backing up, which have always come in handy. Lots of cargo space and the seats fold down or can be removed if I need to move large items or equipment. I basically work out of my car for my job, so it is nice to have everything with me that I might need on a jobsite. Still running rather well at 130,000 miles. Has enough speed and acceleration for my needs.
Cons
Fuel economy is not that great. It feels like I am driving a truck, perhaps because the frame is a truck frame, however it does not have as large of a fuel tank as a truck (30 gallons) so I cannot go as far on a single tank. The brake pedal feels loose or at least can be depressed quite a bit before the brakes really start to engage. I have asked about this from the dealership and they say there is nothing wrong with it but clearly there is as every other car I have driven only requires gentle pressure on the break pedal before it starts to activate. Sometimes it is difficult to maneuver a... (more)
