I am so impressed with my 2013 Chevy Malibu. From the first day I saw then test drove my car, I knew it would be the best vehicle I had owned. To put it plainly, the shape, style, color and over all look is just gorgeous! I am very proud to walk up to my car in a parking lot, unlock the door and get inside. I was completely blown away by the gas mileage. On the highway this car gets at least 35 miles to the gallon. I know that may not seem like a lot with some of today's cars, but going from around 20 miles to the gallon, that's a lot. The size of the car is perfect with a small family. Two adults fit comfortably in the back seat with the center pull down console for drinks or arm rest. The sound system is awesome this car! We were on our way home one night from the movies with our nine-year-old daughter. It's about a 15-minute drive from the theater to home. We were going up the hill by the Motor Inn in the 30 mph section where you can see the 50 mph sign. Just as my husband started to speed up to 50 mph, something black ran out in front of us. I have only a few complaints about the Malibu because it is a perfectly acceptable vehicle. The seats are comfortable for extended driving, the steering wheel is well-designed and the leg room for the front occupants is quite spacious. That said, the leg room for the rear occupants is lacking if you have someone over the age of 13 riding in the back. The trunk is quite large and the foldable rear seats mean you can fit much larger objects than in a car that didn't have them. I have had no rattles or maintenance concerns whatsoever at 25,000 miles. While the car is nice overall, I feel that the engine is left a bit lacking in power when trying to accelerate on an on-ramp or to overtake.
Story
Driving me, my wife, our dog, and our bikes up to Chicago to cycle on the lakefront paths.
Pros
I most enjoy the comfortable seating because I do long periods of extended driving. Everything is ergonomically appropriate and in the right place. The numerous controls on the steering wheel mean that I do not have to lunge all over the cabin to turn the station or adjust the volume. Finally, I enjoy the large trunk that allows me to fit my racing bicycle in the back if I do not want to expose it to the elements while driving.
Cons
The engine is lacking in power when trying to accelerate quickly while joining an interstate or overtaking quickly. Also, the leg room for the rear occupants is quite small for adults. I have had some trouble with some of the trim pieces on the exterior of the door. The black vertical trim between the front and read windows is a little flimsy. While opening the front door, the trim closest to the rear window has bent out significantly, exposing some of the inner working of the door to the elements.
