2001 Ford Escape - Great car for people good with car repairs or as a first "beater" car (a car that's good for letting people learn how to drive or people who will put a lot of wear and tear on a car)

I love the vehicle, it's great in all weather conditions. It's not so great on gas, I was told it gets roughly 20 mpg and the most I've got it to get is 13. Lots of electrical problems which apparently is an issue with most escapes between 2001 and 2002. Great family car, I'm 6'3 and 330 pounds with minor back issues and I fit nicely and can slide in and out of the car with ease, my daughter loves the spaciousness of it and my wife takes full advantage of the storage capacity. It's great at towing and hauling, not much trunk space but makes up for it with its towing ability. No interior rattles, and the car hasn't had many issues other than the electrical problems.
Story
While doing a car ride with my wife to try and get my daughter to sleep (she was too wound up at the house to go to bed), we ended up driving down what we thought was just an unpaved road for almost 5 minutes with huge bumps and a big mud pit just to find it was an old construction entrance, thank goodness for the cars off-roading ability, we had a close call with almost being stuck in the mud... (more)
Pros
I love the 4 wheel drive capability, it really comes in handy for bad weather. The car holds up well despite its age, already has 200,000 miles and other than the electrical all it needed was yearly maintenance and new tires after a few years. I love most that it comfortably fits me, even some trucks don't let me have as much room as I need being a bigger person and can't beat that it comfortably fits my family also.
Cons
Electrical issues, sunk hundreds into it trying to fix all the electrical issues, lots of blown fuses that luckily are cheap and easy to replace, ended up hard wiring my radio to the battery to reassure myself I'd always have music. And the only other issue is that it's not fuel efficient, understandably so while towing or using 4 wheel drive, but it shouldn't use just as much gas as when you use 4 wheel drive while 4 wheel drive is off.

This vehicle may have been a great car in its day, but as the years have gone on, many issues have arisen with this car. Since the day I got this vehicle (used), something has broken monthly. When I had spent almost what I paid for just in repairs, I knew it was time to get rid of it. I had a good run with this car. It is a good-looking vehicle, and the storage comes in handy.
Story
I used this vehicle to move my stuff when I bought my new home. I made several trips in this car. It was a happy moving day.
Pros
I like the overall look of the vehicle, specifically the exterior. When everything is in working order, the vehicle runs great. It is also a good utility vehicle because you can fit a lot of stuff in the back if you need to. I used this car to move my belongings when I moved to a new home.
Cons
The interior of the vehicle kept falling off, even after multiple applications of spray fabric adhesive. Many things went wrong with the car itself. I had to have the starter replaced. The Cadillac converters went bad, and my check engine light was on constantly. This is when I resold it. It was just going to cost way too much for me to have it replaced. I decided it was not worth the trouble or the money.
