The reliability of the Ford Escape is excellent. This is my third Ford Escape. My last escape was a hybrid and I had over 235,000 miles on it when I bought this one. I travel around 400 miles 3 to 4 days per week. The cargo area is also exceptional. I have 6 dogs, and although I have not attempted all 6 of them at once, I have transported 4 at the same time. I usually have the seats down because I love to garden and put tons of plants in the cargo area. The only real drawback is the mpg. I loved my hybrid's 28 mpg. This car was supposed to get the same but I can only get around 23 mpg, so I am not so happy about that. I wish they still made the hybrid. This one does have quite a bit more get up and go however. I would get an Escape again in a minute- although better gas mileage wo... (more)
Story
I went running with my dog and she got tired, so I put her on the car with the car running and the air conditioning onto she would not get too hot. I couldn't figure out how to look the doors with the car running, so I just left the car unlocked. After about 20 minutes of running, I went to get back in my car and it had locked the doors on its own. Luckily, I had taken a picture of the keyles... (more)
Pros
I love the size of the cargo area. It allows me to pack in my hard hat and various construction and accessibility equipment. I love the perks such as the seat heater and moon roof. I have never had seat heaters in my car before. It helps my back when it starts aching from sitting in the car too long. I enjoy the entertainment system - especially the Sirius radio. I also enjoy being able to listen to podcasts through Bluetooth from my iPad. The seats are fairly comfortable. They could be better or worse. The color is a nice neutral gray. It has more power than my old car did. I love that ... (more)
Cons
I wish it had a built-in GPS. It would be nice to have it built-in to the console. Right now I have to bring along an independent GPS which sometimes falls off the window. It does not get as good fuel mileage as it was supposed to get. I was under the impression it would get fuel mileage equal to my hybrid. That is one of the main reasons I purchased this vehicle. It is sometimes difficult to find my car since there are so many cars this color right now.

Wonderful vehicle. It was brand new off the lot and I have had zero problems with it. The gas mileage is amazing and it has eco boost which makes it even better since we vacation a lot. Most of our treks are a couple thousand miles round trip and the gas price to travel that distance is far less than any vehicle I have ever owned. The oil usage is great and I must say that for a "bigger" vehicle, it drives and parks like a small car. All the mirrors are useful and I can weave in and out of traffic with ease and feel safe while driving whereas my older vehicle, which was twice as big, was very hard to drive and especially park. Performance so far has been great. We are about 15,000 miles in within the last full year or so. No hiccups with the vehicle at all and have kept up with oil cha... (more)
Story
Watching the air show at the waterfront! The hatchback area is perfect for me and my wife to sit and enjoy ice cream/food while we watch things. This particular even was an air show and fireworks show on the waterfront where we live. We could literally park by the water, open the hatch, and enjoy a meal together while watching the show. It was great.
Pros
My favorite thing would have to be the roomy trunk area with the hatch back and the camera on the dash for backing up. The dash area is very nice and modern and the camera comes on automatically when you start backing up. It gives you plenty of space to move around your surroundings and not harm anyone that may be driving or walking by. It is a very great feature and one that I have never had before. I do not think I could personally go back to driving without one now that I have used this one for so long. Now the hatch is something new to me as well and I adore it for many reasons. We ca... Cons
My actual only negative thing is actually one of the positives as well. The hatch. While I LOVE the hatch, it is very hard to pack certain things in this vehicle. On a recent trip to Florida, we rented bikes while we were down there to ride around the town we were in. We wanted to pack up the bikes and take them somewhere a little more bike friendly and ride them. We literally tried everything to fit TWO normal sized adult bikes in the back (with the seats folded down of course) and we could not do it. No matter how we altered the bikes we could not get them to fit. We took the handlebars ... (more)
