2006 Ford Escape - Good
I like this car because it was economical. It has always performed very well. I do a lot of driving. I needed something that I could rack up a lot of miles on.
Story
Once I was on vacation with my family. We took this car and another, but we got stuck in traffic. The other air conditioning went out on the other car. The air in my car worked for over an hour in traffic in July.
Pros
My main concern is for a car not to "die" on me and leave me stranded. I can honestly say that has never been a concern with this car. I liked that the car had roomy interior for a smaller SUV. The car gets pretty good gas mileage, even though it is not a hybrid. The car has always run very smoothly. It does give me dashboard lights to alert me if anything is wrong. I have owned it now for almost ten years and 200,000 miles. So far I have only had minor problems.
Cons
Some parts of the car from the factory seemed to wear out quick. For example, it seemed like I needed brake pads and rotors very quickly after driving it. I wish that the car had come with some type of service like OnStar. The interior of the car is ugly. It doesn't affect the way it runs, but it does look ugly and cheap. The interior has not held up very well.
2006 Ford Escape - Great car
I don't know very much about the mechanical aspects of cars, but for as long as I've had it my car has proven to be reliable. I purchased it from my neighbor two years ago in very good condition. It currently has close to 60,000 miles and the only problem I've had with it was having to replace the battery earlier this year. This was not a big deal to me, as it still had the original battery from when it was made in 2006. The interior of the car is very spacious. There is plenty of room for storage and the back seats can lay down to make even more space. As a college student, I travel back and forth between school and home in it several times a year so the large amount of space is ideal for transporting my luggage and my pets. On that note, the air conditioning and heater work very well... (more)
Story
It's able to withstand fairly rough roads better than a lot of other cars. I'm a vet med student, and for class we sometimes have to drive to farms on bad roads. There was one incident after a rainstorm when we had to drive down a dirt road, and all the other students had to park far away and walk so their cars wouldn't get stuck in the mud. My friend and I had a good laugh when I was able to ... (more)
Pros
My favorite thing is the large amount of space in the back of the vehicle. As mentioned, I'm a college student and do a lot of traveling during the year. I'm also a small person, so I appreciate the fact that the seat and pedals are very adjustable. In addition, the car has windshield wipers on the rear window which is nice as I live in a very dusty area.
Cons
The only negative thing I can think of is the relatively poor gas mileage. It seems like I have to refill the gas tank pretty often despite the fact that I don't drive very far on a daily basis. However, I suspected this would be the case when I bought the car, and it wouldn't stop me from buying it again.
